I've seen in the past special probes that are designed to latch into the through holes on a circuit board. Not pogo pins since those don't hold themselves in the hole.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Hm... tag for interest.  I could probably use those myself.  I've got some Commodore 64 boards that need some more in-depth troubleshooting.

As a side note... mpja.com is a neat site for parts, tools, components, etc.  Usually good prices, plenty of sales in their weekly emails.

I know what you're talking about, they're like tiny cleco fasteners with a test lead.

Haven't found them in a quick search, but they definitely exist.
