One of those biometric things that will read your fingerprints, or a punch code, that holds a pistol on your nightstand?

The only one that I have seen in person is made by Fort Knox, which is a Symplex safe. However, if you Google it, those can be easily defeated by screwdriver. If you're just looking for one to keep children out any Symplex type lock would work fine. I'm not familiar with the biometric ones.

No bedside gun should go in a safe.

This one rated well by bosnian bill years ago. I dont know if its still the same one thou. The old one was labeled amazon.
He could not pick the lock, and could not get in to the reset button when it was closed. But it does need to be bolted down. click here ![]() (1534) Review: Amazon Basics Quick Access Safe (PS75EF) |

have had a couple, one bio and one code, the code in the dark didn't seem fast enough because didn't want to take the time to turn on light and the bio only worked 80% of the time. don't have kids so now all i have to do is open night stand drawer and I'm good to go, same on wife side of the bed. if ya find a good one ill buy 2

I prefer simplex mechanical locks, thus Ft. Knox and V-Line strongboxes.

I've heard good things about Fas1. Not cheap, but very heavily built. Simplex lock.

I literally just got this one for free. Pretty basic but its sole purpose is to keep toddlers honest, which it will be fine for. Has an interior light that’s kicks on when the safe opens. Key or code access. Runs off (4) AAA or AC charger (doesn’t come with one, but is wired up for it).

I have the Hornady bedside one that looks like an alarm clock, it's been going strong a couple of years. Some of their other rapid safes are pretty junky though.

I have a stop box in the book camouflage that I got during a BOGO (wife and I needed one for our EDCs). It's a great nightstand storage option with quick access.
Link below, my specific model looks to be discontinued and I wouldn't pay 129 for just one, I paid $99 for two, but sharing as a reference https://stopboxusa.com/products/limited-edition-stopbox?_pos=1&_sid=06c290fb6&_ss=r&variant=40791564910640 |

I like my V-Line. It's well built and there are no batteries to go dead.

When I opened this thread, I half-expected people to say they have their bedside gat next to their claymore clackers. |

I have a Fort Knox, I'd just as easily go with any simplex box from American Security(AmSec), FAS1, V-Line, etc. I just picked the one that would fit and open properly in the place I wanted to put it. I don't really think you can go wrong with any of those.

My bedside table has a hidden drawer in it. If you don't know it's there, you won't see it. It doesn't lock or anything, but not knowing it's there serves a decent purpose. Also, it's very easy to open quickly and be armed if needed. But I also have my shotgun hidden in my room that I can access very quickly.
ETA: I don't have kids so no worries there. I do have 2 young nephews, but they're rarely here. And when they are, they're only interested in my PS5 or my computer. |

Hornady rapid safe is the best.
Looks like a clock (albeit pretty big and metal) and has RFID access. I keep a tag on my phone and I just have to tap the phone to the safe to open it. Also has a backup keypad. Very fast and easy to access and not too gun safe-y. |

I’ve got a v line brute and trust it. Had one of those electric finger print and app access jobs and it shit the bed several times until it would not longer open an then I had to cut it open with my grinder to get my revolver free.

Have you thought about a bedside table that has electronic or mechanical locks where the gun is hidden?

I've had this one under the bed for over 9 years now.
It's an optical fingerprint safe, with good recognition and a set of motorized deadbolts, rather than a cheap spring latch and solenoid. I've never had an issue opening it quickly. I keep a key for the bigger safe inside for quick access as well. I put freshly charged Eneloop batteries in it when I change the smoke detector ones. ![]() |

Sure, you can carry almost any of them with you and pop it open with a screwdriver, cut it open with a wheel, whatever. But you keep a gun there for a reason - outside intruders. When none are present, you want to keep it away from people other than yourself. That's it. |

View Quote This. Anyone saying you don't need a bedside safe clearly doesn't ever have children in their homes. You can leave it open at night if you wish, stage it so you only have to turn the lever, or leave it totally locked up. If it left totally open, the pistol is staged perfectly to grab it safely and quickly. I'd argue it's more effective AND safer that way compared to leaving a loaded pistol on the nightstand. |

Handgun:
![]() https://www.secureitgunstorage.com/product/hg2-handgun-safe/ Its good for a full size pistol with a WML and a reload or two. Long gun: ![]() https://www.secureitgunstorage.com/product/fast-box-model-47/ The long gun has a shorter version that fits just an AR but I like the longer version to store my CCW and keep a couple spare mags secure. I added red LED motion activated lighting to the top of mine to give just enough light to access things without wrecking night vision. |

If someone is in your room, you don't have 20 seconds to unfuck your safe. 1) if they're standing in your bedroom when you wake up, you're already fucked 2) you can leave a pistol box unlocked, and the lid even swung open, when you're asleep 3) even if you leave it locked, it doesn't take 20 seconds to unlock any one of these 4) if you believe your life will literally hinge on having an extra 5 seconds, you should probably be getting a monitored alarm system and external cameras that alert you before someone even gets into your house, let alone your bedroom But whether you agree with those points or not, it's inappropriate to assume your situation and priorities apply to everyone else, and very inappropriate to disparage a father with children who's trying to do something to keep them safe. So again, let's both stop sliding this thread and let it get back on topic. And I won't say that again. |
