Long story short...

Holster maker made this wrong and I don't want to wait another 14 weeks with excuse after excuse on a 6-8 week lead time...

They didn't accommodate for the red dot that I specified. Normally I'd just trim it, but the clip sits so high and close I'm afraid it might lose some structural integrity? Not afraid to go bubba on it if it'll still hold my gun.

If not, it's about to go the ee for someone else who doesn't want to wait on lead time.

Yes.  Smooth the edges and enjoy your holster.

I have trimmed Safariland holster with no issue.

If you cut past the front sight, it may hang up when drawing.

Looks like there is plenty of contact still even if you trim for the optic.  I did the same thing with a DSG holster for a 320 with Romeo 1.  My attachment points were lower though, belt loop style.

It looks like you would be okay due to the strength of the Kydex.

I think he wants to cut from the other end, for the red dot.

Correct. Although I have thought about cutting the muzzle end on my safariland for different gun.

Looks like I've got enough yeses to cut this thing. At least that's what I'm telling myself. Will post back with results.

Yes, you will be fine. Go slow

Course. You can use a band saw or some Tin snips. Smooth out with cloth polishing or sand paper

14 weeks is nothing to wait for a quality holster, send it back and tell them hurry the fuck and build the correct one.

Do the optic cut holsters from that maker have an alternative clip attachment method, or are they like yours with a cutout for the optic?

If you don't want to damage the holster, dremel off the sight instead.

Well, the longer version of the story is: They admitted they fumbled my order and sent me the holster for free. I hounded them after I started getting the twice a week "yours is literally up next" type line. For them to replace my free holster, I don't think it will be a high priority. The screws are mix matched, the inside is pretty heavily gouged, and there has kydex dust all over the interior. But I will just call it even since the price can't be beaten.

I couldn't tell you. I just know it's an option.

Not to be a dick but given the problems you’ve run into and the glaring quality issues (mismatched hardware, gouges, incorrect cut), you should look into another holster.

This is the life saving equipment used to house one of the most important items you carry daily. Get something with a metal clip from a more reputable vendor, this is not the place to save a few bucks.

I'm good with cosmetic issues once the cut is made for the optic. The question is, will it be good structurally after this cut? I believe so, but I will find out for sure soon.

If your holster can mount a wing or claw, you could use a tuck strut with an IWB loop to avoid stress near the cut.

I just trimmed one to fit my Trijicon on my FN Tactical. Didn't affect the rigidity of it at all.
Rounded the corners with the Dremel.

How do you think they make one with the red dot cut they charge extra for?

That doesn't look like a 14 week wait kind of quality.

Yep no problem op. I used a nail file to round the edges/corners and a scrubby pad to finish it. No issues whatsoever.

Kinda figured they would relocate the mounting clip so they won't have to do back and cut into the mounting clip surface after the fact. But who knows, maybe they like doing that kind of thing?

The cut actually turned out pretty great, however the holster itself is a piece of shit.

I've never had a kydex that didn't click... Until now. The gun slides into place like a mosquito dick into a porn star. Even after tightening the adjustments, it's just not a good fit. The flashlight appears to have been fitted about 2 clicks outward from where it should be, but whatever I was ok with leaving it that way. However, it still didn't click or stay in place when any minute amount of touch was applied to the butt of the gun. Without the light, the holster fit was even looser even with adjustment.

So the holster is going in the trash and I'll buy one elsewhere. Thanks for the help all, the integrity after the cut was solid. The mod would have been a success and looked decent had the actual holster been solid.

But again, it's all for not. The holster also actually scratched my gun on the slide. Sure it's a tool, but shouldn't already have wear down to the metal on day one of being holstered.

If the flashlight is used for retention it wont click. Its a friction fit. Clicks usually only happen when the trigger guard is used for retention ime.

Just figure out where it needs to fit tighter on the flashlight and use a hair dryer or heat gun on it to mold it.

Great info, thanks! Is it normal for there to be some play with the friction fit? If so, I will need to make some more clearance with the sides of my cut, as I didn't leave a whole lot of extra tolerance.

Also, do you recommend loosening the adjustment screws prior to dryer treatment? Just figure that would allow my to tighten further if needed. Heat gun while the screws are tensioned in seems like it won't leave me any room to tighten as it loosens up some over time. But I am inexperienced in kydex, so maybe that's not a thing.

Thanks!

Great info, thanks! Is it normal for there to be some play with the friction fit? Not in my experience but I only have products from Trex and G-Code that are friction fit and both are top notch. If so, I will need to make some more clearance with the sides of my cut, as I didn't leave a whole lot of extra tolerance.

Also, do you recommend loosening the adjustment screws prior to dryer treatment? I don't usually, I just heat and mold to my satisfaction. This is with cheaper more universal fit kydex holsters or mag pouches. On trigger guard retention making the divot/recess inside the trigger guard deeper will give a tighter fit.Sometimes too tight lol. With your situation you could heat and then use the butt end of a screw driver or something similar to "bone in" the kydex that surrounds the flashlight.Just do one side at a time and heat it quit a bit but don't melt it lol and keep boneing it in while it cools.Just figure that would allow my to tighten further if needed. Heat gun while the screws are tensioned in seems like it won't leave me any room to tighten as it loosens up some over time. But I am inexperienced in kydex, so maybe that's not a thing.

So this is my Trex Ragnarok and you can see even though the kydex is thick the flashlight shape is defined. The kydex that is under the trigger guard also is part of the retention in addition to the flashlight. So those are the areas I would concentrate on to make the retention better.

Also if you screw up you can start again or just throw it in the unused/disliked holster drawer that most everyone that carries a pistol has...lol

Hope that helps.

I wouldn't be cutting and fitting the holster and trial fitting the pistol with it loaded.

Technically, you can cut an inch off of anything at least once.

Do we need to include YouTube disclaimers before every post where we show the unloaded chamber? Is this because one pic had something in the chamber while being outside of the holster? Do you think I holstered it as is and Dremeled it like that? Strange.
