I took my DR Power brush cutter to my land to clear some brush off the sides of the road today...the woods wants to be the woods...very rapidly.

By mistake, I found the best string for a weed cutter...ran over a piece of barbed wire and it wrapped around the spindle.

Boy, does that stuff rip through brush!  If it wasn't so noisy, it would be the perfect brush cutting tool.

Have you looked at something like this?

"Weed Warrior Push-n-Load"

Also check these out...

Metal composite blades for the Weed Warrior

Those fucking rip through stuff damn fast - just be careful as they are NOT forgiving in the least bit (Carhart pants offer no protection to the metal ones).

We cleared out the shit by the lake shore with this setup and its rather satisfying to see it all go bye-bye.

It works great....until it breaks loose and takes off your leg.

Seriously....don't do that.

For woody brush (up to about 3" diameter), nothing rips through it like these:

clearing saw

For serious brush removal.   For example, it will rip through a cluster of half a dozen 1" Red Maple saplings in way under 1 second.  Just touch something with the blade and it's gone.  Big engine driving a thin kerf saw blade with teeth moving far faster than any chainsaw.

Renegade blade in my fs240 does a respectable job on brush. No way at all I’d use barb wire on a string trimmer. It WILL fail and stands a fair chance of embedding a chunk in your leg when it does.

Another vote for these things.  Cheap enough on Amazon and they do a fantastic job.  Turns a weedwacker into a lightsaber.

One thing to note- if you use them a lot the carbide blade tips start to get loaded up with with crusted-on plant schmoo, and they will cut a lot worse.  When that happens, you can just scrape off the face of the blade tips with a putty knife or something and you'll be good to go.

I like Renegade blades but they're really best suited for briar up to small trees. If you're doing grass/weeds with briars and and tiny saplings (3/4" and smaller) a good tri-point blade is way better!

It sounds like OP probably has the latter...

Yeah, old Echo SRM261T rips thru 1 inch whatever in the blink of an eye, and a sharp blade can get thru wrist sized stuff in about 2 seconds.

Go this route in whatever brand suits your fancy.
