Although BBT had it moments the only character I could stand was Penny and Professor Proton was awesome. I liked all the characters on Third Rock, anywho just throwing this out.

Third Rock From The Sun TBBT was just to stupid and the characters were absolutely annoying.

The Big Bang Theory only lasted as long as it did because it followed a more popular show that was on at the time.

BBT appealed to the nerd crowd (myself included) and had appeal outside their core audience. From observation, the nerd crowd tends to be more faithful viewers.
