Thousands of National Guardsmen were forced to vacate congressional grounds on Thursday and are now taking their rest breaks outside and in nearby parking garages, after two weeks of sleepless nights protecting the nation’s capital in the wake of the violent Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

One unit, which had been resting in the Dirksen Senate Office building, was abruptly told to vacate the facility on Thursday, according to one Guardsman. The group was forced to rest in a nearby parking garage without internet reception, with just one electrical outlet, and one bathroom with two stalls for 5,000 troops, the person said.

“Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen walked down our lines taking photos, shaking our hands and thanking us for our service. Within 24 hours, they had no further use for us and banished us to the corner of a parking garage. We feel incredibly betrayed,” the Guardsman said.

According to a source, Rep. Will Keating (D-MA) reported to the Capitol building authorities earlier in the day that a National Guardsman was seen in a Dunkin Donuts without a mask on.

After Keating commented out loud that masks were required to be worn at all times in a federal building, the National Guard member responded, “I appreciate my freedom,” according to the source.

National Guard commanders are now looking for the National Guard member, according to the source.

Why? These guard units didn't do anything wrong. I'm sure there were more than a few that didn't want to be there but you follow legal orders and there was nothing illegal about their orders.

Just being out there would of given me the dog and pony vibe. My thoughts while in service would be "Why the fuck am I standing here like an idiot, holding a rifle, guarding against nothing? Fuck this shit."

I feel bad for them and hope they realize the elite treat them always like the help, and not just military, when you get to the powerful everyone is the help no matter how special you think you are.

Just rambling now, but I don't think people understand how wealthy people are, the super wealthy, the people with power, they're in a whole nother world. Interacting with them you feel like they think you're nothing more than a thing, like a buzzing mosquito interrupting their tea party.

You should give a shit. It's not like you can just say "Fuck this, I'm not going!".

They would be subject to the UCMJ and listed as AWOL or after thirty days, desertion. They would then be arrested and jailed.

Then a dishonorable discharge which is equivalent to a felony and stripped of their 2A rights.

It's a little different being a soldier vs a cop who can quit any time.
