Bone tomahawk....if you want some horror mixed in

Blew out sick today and I shot my new lever gun and six shooter this week. Puts me in the mood for something with horses and western scenery.

Name me some good western I probably haven't seen. Right now I'm facing having to rewatch 310 to Yuma or apaloosa.

I'm not sure how serious you take your westerns, but Brisco County Jr was a hilarious and generally family friendly (other than Dixie maybe) western starring Bruce Campbell from the early 90s. There was only one season, but it definitely could have gone further.

It's got comic relief, some ridiculousness, and some minor sci-fi in it, but ultimately if you're looking for something different it's worth a look. I think it's still free on Tubi.

"Evil Roy Slade" with John Astin, Mickey Rooney and Ann Margaret, one of the funniest things I've ever seen-- "Rustler's Rhapsody" is very similar-- honorable mention for "Outer Range" which is only half out yet but might be a real sleeper

Among the best. “Open Range” is always a sentimental favorite of mine for a myriad of reasons, especially the cast.

Another idea is “Last Man Standing.”

It’s a western, just set in the 1920s.  I’ve always enjoyed it.

to me Unforgiven is the hands down, no competition, best western ever made.

The original Jango is weird, but fun.

Unforgiven
Open Range
Tombstone
Young Guns 1 and 2
3:10 to Yuma (remake)
Django
Appaloosa

I guess you could fit Hell or High Water in as a modern take on a western as well.

A bunch of good ones have ready been mentioned, but I'd include Bite the Bullet, and Duck You Sucker!, as well as any of the Hopalong Cassidy films from way back.  And of course, there's always The Magnificent Seven, as well as The Duke's black and white films from the 20's and 30's such as The Trail Beyond and The Lawless Frontier.

eta...I forgot Chisum, McClintock!, Tom Horn and High Plains Drifter, all good ones.

I saw the 1966 release with Marlon Brando last Summer on Starz, haven’t seen the other one that was released in 2008 with a completely different storyline.

I can't believe Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid has not been mentioned yet.

I also enjoyed the first couple parts of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

Four of the apocalypse (1975)

Been a while since I watched it, was hard to find a decade or so ago.

It was directed by Lucio Fulci, well known Italian horror director, I am a fan and I also like westerns so it was a must watch.

Ill have to dig it out again m, I cannot remember much about it now lol
