I am picking up a lightly used police trade in this week based on what you all think. 5 Shot, Pistol grip version.
Anything to look for or parts that need replaced?
Also need input on what magazine extension to look for.

As always, thanks to most of you for your input and FJB.

I should have posted this originally so I could save the M4 guys some time

M2 is better. If you can get a good deal and want it, go for it. Nordic components make a tube for it. I don’t know anything about 922 r. Never heard of it.

I've got one. It's a pretty neat shotgun, but the biggest down fall really is the lack of chokes. My M4 sees more range time.

If the PD trade-in is a decent price (and not an HK marked gun), i'd hock it on GB as M3s are 2k+ guns right now, and then use that toward a M4 or an M2.

I have an old Hk marked one, rifle sights, great shotgun. Doesn’t feed minis or cycle some low powered stuff however. Only downside is barrel is too thin to put chokes in. Cylinder it is... but I like it.

For competition the Franchi Affinity 3 is an even better deal. Made in the same factory and takes all of the go fast parts from the M2. I picked up mine that I use for 3G for $500, it looked to have a box of shells through the gun.

I have owned a M1 (the original with wooden furniture) an M1 Super 90, an M2, and an M3.

I sold all but the M3. ...and regret selling the original M1, which was a tack driver with slugs!

IMHO the M3 is the best for a defensive shotgun. For shot, less lethal, and specialty round that normally don't have the power to function semi-auto there is pump action.

Buckshot, slugs, etc...  semi-auto

I had an M3 for my first 3gun shotgun.  It was an awesome piece, but I sold
It off to get an M2.   A little lighter and smaller hand guard.

It would even “ghost load”.

You've got my attention! Pics of chokes? any more details on the work?

I've been looking at the A&S enhanced TG for mine. It's been added to the "project list," though, along with everything else.

My perception is that they are good guns, but I don't see the point when you can get an M2 or M4 (if you can budget for it). My M1S90 was amazing and I miss it. I really want another Benelli, but the Beretta 1301 w/ Magpul furniture has my attention.

My Franchi loading port, I actually went deeper on the left side since I tried this out. I also made a new enlarged bolt release. One thing to note, look how beefy the receiver is, makes it a great gun for modding.
