I bought the Freud 99-480 base cap bit.
It does not fit the base cap moulding I got from my old lumber yard. I looked on Freud's site and on Whiteside's site but neither listed a smaller base cap bit. The base cap moulding that I have is 3/4 x 1 1/4. The Freud bit is 11/16 x 1 3/8. Does anyone know of a base cap bit that would match my moulding?

A lot of those profiles are near impossible to match. They start with a custom set of shaper knives and the profile changes ever so slightly every time they get sharpened. A custom router bit is your best bet for close enough.

I decided to stick with the new molding from the router bit.
I WILL not make any new moulding until I have a shaper with an auto feed. I had to make something like 30 ft of moulding. Most of it is sanded and installed. I will finish installing the rest tomorrow. |
