It's ok though because Biden is sending pallets of formula to the border so at least the illegals can feed their kids.  That's a pretty legit mega-villian plan right there.  Procure as much formula as possible for illegals while starving the babies of American citizens.  All those little illegals are going to be voters in a year or two so each brown baby life matters.

Is there a credible cite for that?

It has been covered on Fox and mentioned on the mainstream news.

Moms who have PCOS, mastectomies, or have to work full time job and aren't able to pump at work, people who adopted, moms who had their supply interupted by an emergecy or medical prodecure and their supply didn't come back, premature babies who need to eat before milk comes in, babies with certain alleries, the list goes on and on.

Not everyone has the luxury of breastfeeding. Infant mortality rates were 10 times higher before formula existed.

We raised three kids and never used formula.
People are treating this like obesity in America.
"I have a thyroid problem!"  Sure you do.
Not being fat is hard work.
Nursing a baby is hard work.
But sure, there probably does exist that fraction
of 1% that are legitimately fat because of a thyroid problem.

The trouble is once the milk is gone, it doesnt come back. Thats regardless of if they stopped voluntarily or there was a medical issue affecting supply.

You cant just stop breastfeeding for 2 weeks and then start again.

The problem is that you don't know who to believe. These are the same people that told us not to treat COVID until it was in an advanced stage.

I'm sure formula is the optimal solution but homemade may be ok for an interim solution. If they don't recommend a solution to feed your baby they are part of the problem.

Percentage wise, it's a small part of the problem, but still a problem. The lion's share of the problem is, as usual, political and bureaucratic incompetence and screwups.
Washington Examiner article
...It’s true that several pallets of baby formula have reportedly been shipped to the southern border to feed the babies of detained illegal immigrants. But in the grand scheme of a nationwide shortage, that’s really not very much baby formula, hardly enough to make a difference either way.

In 2019, kids under 2 were 4% of family units arrested by Border Patrol & 1% of "unaccompanied" kids (taken from a nonparent). This means there were probably <400 babies in border jails at 1 time in March 2022. Starving those babies wouldn't help a national shortage much...

Even with the runaway invasion of illegal immigrants in 2022, it's still a small but finite part of the problem.
...The actual root cause was a massive February recall of several popular baby formula products at an Abbott manufacturing facility over contamination concerns. Beyond this initial spark, the rest of the crisis stemmed from the myriad ways in which the federal government hindered the market’s ability to respond — which is where Republicans ought to focus their energy.

Reporting reveals that Food and Drug Administration officials were made aware of the problem months before the recall and did absolutely nothing. (Great work, guys, really making those tax dollars worth it!)

Then, as I explained for BasedPolitics, the recall was horribly exacerbated by the huge taxes we place on imported baby formula, the choking regulation that stifles domestic production, and the outright import bans we place on most European baby formula products.

FWIW, My wife and I were children during WW2. Boiled water, condensed milk, Karo syrup, and some readily available supplements were the order of the day for everybody. Today, it can be supplemented with what formula is available. IMHO, the illegals should be the ones getting the condensed milk and Karo substitute.

Baby formula boss warns crisis will last ALL YEAR as Biden claims it will be eased in weeks and only 'mind reader' could see it coming - despite shortages beginning last July

https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/259519/EF6D60EB-05C9-46F7-9374-9F8BC05EA02C_jpe-2383106.JPG

The head of one of the four companies that control 90 percent of the U.S. market for baby formula has warned that the shortages nationwide could last until the end of the year, as President 's critics mocked his claim that 'only a mind reader' could have predicted the current crisis.

On Friday CEO of formula giant Perrigo Murray Kessler, told Reuters he expects shortages and heightened demand to last for the 'balance of the year.'

Kessler said their factories in Ohio and Vermont are running at 115 percent capacity, to compensate for Chicago-based Abbott's shutdown - but added that supplies would remain erratic for the remainder of 2022.

'We have stepped up and are killing ourselves to do everything we can,' Kessler said.

Meanwhile President Biden has sparked fury after claiming that the issue could be sorted within weeks - the same as what the FDA has previously said - without offering further unique detail on how he plans to tackle the issue.

He was also accused of being glib after telling reporters Friday that he'd have needed psychic powers to predict the crisis, despite alarm bells sounding as far back as summer 2021.

The nationwide 'out of stock' level has been consistently above 10 percent since August, and in January this year The Wall Street Journal warned of an impending problem.

Brian Deese, Director of the National Economic Council, said on Friday morning that the had been urging states to take action to combat the issue in February - after the shortage was exacerbated by a February 17 recall of some products produced by Abbott Laboratories, and a shutdown of one of their plants.

'We actually gave states the guidance on using flexibility the day after this recall happened in February,' he told 's Kaitlin Collins.

Yet Biden on Friday insisted no one could have predicted the crisis, which has seen desperate parents go from store to store, trying to find the urgently-needed formula.

Sure they do. It's not complicated. They know, roughly, how much formula is needed. The amount needed will vary somewhat due to a variety of factors. If formula is scarce more women will breastfeed. And babies will get fed goat or cows milk instead of formula... it worked for millennia and it works today even if we are told it isn't ideal. As supplies come up then the usage will come up as well. But it's not hard to get some good estimates of usage.

Then there is the supply and you can bet that CEO has a real good idea about how much can be produced.  He probably has a good understanding of how much can be imported to alleviate the shortages as well. He can't know what other crap will be coming down the line to disrupt things. Maybe Biden officials will decided to shut down more plants. Maybe Biden officials will confiscate the formula so it can be shipped to other countries.

So he can't say for sure, but the CEO does have a good idea. Whether he is telling the truth or not is another matter.

I would actually say that the predictability of the baby formula market is one of the reasons there is a shortage. To make up numbers, if a million tons of baby formula gets used every year and your company has 25% of the market, then you have the capacity to produce a quarter million tons a year. Maybe you expand so you can produce 300k tons, just in case that ad campaign works out and to account for needed maintenance in some plants/lines but you don't invest in the needed factories to make a million tons all by yourself. If the market were more volatile then you might decided to expand production capacity so you can profit off of demand spikes, but for a product with as stable a demand as baby formula, there is no reason to do so.

And that means when the Biden officials shut down production at a major plant, there is no way to make up for the shortfall.

As far as Biden knowing the future goes... He is right in that he would have to know the future to have predicted this. And there is an actual way to predict the future called SCIENCE. In this case, understanding the science of economics makes many of the Biden failures entirely predictable. And maybe that is part of the problem with the Left, they are detached from the idea of cause and effect when it comes to the economy.

They never found a link between the plant and the contamination that killed two babies. They did find operation and training issues as well as a different contamination in a non production area. According to Fox News, the FDA got a tip in October, interview the Whistleblower  in December and inspected the plant at the end of January. They are moving very slow on this. Parents and their babies are paying the price for our broken government.

Only because you have political ideologue bureaucrats and the president holding up Abbott
If they told Abbott to resume production, and lifted the ban on Euro formulas, I’d bet they would have a very good idea how long it would take to replenish the supply chain - they know the competition’s output when running 100% or close to it
Because what government does seldom makes good sense, it cannot be accurately predicted.

Once you get to ~6 months they don't have to have 100% breastmilk and formula. You can start mashing food up and letting them have a little. Or buy canned/pouched baby food and let them have that.

So, just like we all know, when you fuck with momma bear or her cub, you get mauled, so do the globalists. Anyone that thinks these types of shortages/issues are not at least being encouraged by the Left are blind. People love government regulation/control/interference when they promise to fix the issue. We all know that will not end well. Wet nurses are probably making a killing with the 10-15% of the population that can afford them right now. I have one son that was allergic to everything and due to illness my wife could not breast feed him. Without the special formula available, and this was 1991, we would have been fucked. 2nd son, no problem, wouldnt give up the tit till we forced him. There are also genetic disorders where infants cannot eat normal formula, nor breast milk.

Try the stores even if the app says they are out. I was able to get some at Sam’s when the app showed they were out. I was making a run looking at Target, Jewel, Walmart, Walgreens and Sam’s.

I also tried Costco’s website several times a day. Friday I was able to order the two package limit. I checked today and they  are out. I had ordered once before from Costco and they allowed the order but canceled it the next day. I am buying this for my grandniece in Texas. Over 52% of the stores are out of stock. Illinois was slightly better. I can’t wait for late August when she will be one and off of formula.
