I rented a BMW 128i from a guy on the TURO rental app. and the little Beemer is a fun car. I recently had a Q50S and the steering feel was an abomination. This little guy feels very connected and the steering feel is better than my vette, and almost as good as the S2000.
If you have owned the 135 or 128 can you please share your positive and negative experiences.
This might be a fun lil commuter.

not a 1 series but i have the 430 which is the 4 cyl (similar to the 128).  But spring for the 135 (older) or 140 (newer) 6 cyl engine.

I'd research them and get one with the B58 engine or better.

You want the 6.  Trust me.  I tuned my 4 cyl but still would rather have a 6.

Are people using this app to swap tires and such like they occasionally do with a rental car?

I believe the 128i had a 6cyl non turbo engine. I was interested in them a while back just for that very reason you stated, the 6cyl.  They aren't little rocket ships like the 135 turbos can be made to be, but from my research they are fun little cars and less complicated than the turbo set up.

in the US, most of the recent x28 cars are 4cyl and x35 cars are 6cyl.
they've been replaced with the x30 (4cyl) and x40 (6cyl) cars.

I think the previous gen was x28 = n.a. 6 and x35 was turbo 6.
current and next gen follow the x20/x28/x30 are turbo-4s and x35/x40 are the turbo 6s.

what year were you looking at?

the 1 series 2012-2016 135 were the N55 6 cyl engines.
the 2016-current 140 are the B58 6 cyl engine.

I'd stick with the B58 or newer engines for my next BMW.

HPFPs are a POS in the 135s.

Convertible top window eventually comes unglued from the fabric, no way to fix except new top, aftermarket is better than OEM.

Typical BMW riff-raff, waterpump/radiator goes out around 60k.

135 really needs an LSD if adding more power.

He mentioned 128 and 135, so I’m guessing he was looking at the older gens, unless he’s making a general inquiry about all years of 1 and 2 series.

I am looking for anything up to when they changed the steering system. I was told the change happened in 2013.
I want the feel of the older steering system.

E82. Also consider the E92 3 series if you want hydraulic steering and a better value. 135s were commanding stupid money the last I looked but that's been a while.
