Thanos wiped out half the beings in the universe.  What will our friends do???

Hasn't this story already been told in the comics,... err... in the graphic novels?

If so, what happened and how did it end?

Why isn't the existence of this story in the comics a HUGE spoiler for the movie?

If you are talking about the real captain marvel (the male)  then he stopped thanos when he has the cosmic cube.  I think the infinity gauntlet was a much later story line.

The movies differ from the comics in several key ways that will more or less make the finale different, so how things were resolved in the comics almost doesn't matter.

The truth behind the truth is the Avengers will beat Thanos by using the old Peter Pan Tinkerbell trick... they need everyone in the world to pay Disney ten dollars each to save Tinkerbell. Come on. Do it. Do it now. Save Tinkerbell. Give Disney your money. You don't need it anymore. Its only ten dollars each. Don't you want Groot back? What about Spiderman? Ten dollars. Each. Now.

Why did Thanos choose to destroy only half of all life?  They will be replaced in one generation.  Why 50%?  Why not 90% or 99.9999%?  Why not 10% or none at all?

Does this story even exist in the comics?  If so, how does it end?  The good guys win, right?  But how do they do it in the comics?

It’s an irrational and amoral desire which he has convinced himself is ultimately the most rational - even moral. That’s why he makes a good villain.

That doesn’t explain the derpers who are OK with his logic and think murdering half of all civilization is doing nothing wrong.

We spent some time discussing the absurdity of and plot holes within this movie.  The story completely falls apart upon inspection and tail spins downward very quickly.

As it became a bummer discussion topic, I concluded that we would have a lot more fun using the movie's information to determine ways the Avengers might defeat Thanos.

My simple approach -

Have Ant Man go quantum realm, enter Thanos' head, then re-expand to full size.  This would explode Thanos' head and kill him.

Also suggested -

The Avengers should then grab the Time Stone (green) and go back in time and kill him before he had the Gauntlet.

Nagging Questions -

If you have the Space, Time and Power Stones you do not need any other Stones.  You can go anywhere, at any time and do any thing.

What is the difference between the Mind Stone and the Reality Stone?

What is the Soul Stone and why doesn't it feature prominently or ever get used at all?

OUR CONCLUSIONS -

These movies are made for 10 year old boys.  Adult mind sets need not apply.

Why wouldn’t Dr. Strange use his sling ring to cut off Thanos’s arm in order to get the gauntlet off?

Thanos was one of the people deleted from society when he snapped his fingers. All of the souls taken are in the soul stone. The remaining avengers will have to release everyone from the soul stone.

Edit: The proximity of the other stones(Reality/Time) and their connection through the glove allows everyone on the sole stone to believe they are in whatever reality they want to be in. This explains Thanos visions/farming at the end of infinity wars.

I watched a YouTube video (at the spoiler link below) which speculates on the storyline for End Game.

Supposedly the person who leaked this storyline was also correct about the Infinity Wars storyline when they leaked that.

The story of Thanos killing off half the universe does indeed exist, but the details are very different.  In the comics, Thanos was not on a crusade to "save" anything.  He did this to impress Death (an actual being, the physical embodiment of Death).  It is also his second (and, somewhat surprisingly, LESS ambitious) plan for doing so.  In the first instance, he attempted to destroy ALL life in the universe.  Because, well, he's evil, and that's what the REALLY evil characters do in comic books.
