Replaced a sink this weekend and I need to replace the pipe going into the wall.  It's got a nut and a grommet thingy and I've got both of them off but the pipe won't budge.  Any tips?  Sorry about the shitty image.

Not my sink but the picture is similar.

Not a plumber.

Have you removed the lower P trap connection?

If so you should be able to twist it. Years of crud tend to cement them in decently well in some cases. Twisting gives you more shearing power than pulling it straight out.

Not a plumber but can you take some clear up close pictures to make sure it isn’t glued?

Looking forward to the pic in that case. Is it ABS like the pic or is it thin wall PVC that is typical? That stuff isn't supposed to be glued. Regular PVC is glued but sounds like you have a standard slip coupling whose threads are glued to schedule 40 PVC but the pipe that slides in should be a fairly thin walled PVC pipe.

Should be able to twist the nuts off and take it apart. Maybe grab a large pair of channel lock pliers.

Stuck a crescent wrench up in the bend and tried to twist both ways.  No Dice.

It doesn’t look glued.

If you can get it out by twisting maybe you can cut it; then attach a new drain pipe using a mission coupling

Cut the thin wall abs flush with the 1-1/2" ABS M.I.P.
Then use a flat blade screw driver or a chisel to break the thin wall p-trap arm out of there in pieces.
If that doesn't work cut the M.I.P. off and glue a new one on. If that thin wall trap is still stuck/glued in/whatever the hell they did, use an 1-1/2" coupling a short piece of pipe and a new trap adapter (they are really just M.I.P.'s with ferruled nuts.

Super odd that it sounds like they glued it in there. Plastic doesn't get stuck like that. Metal sure, I've broke off lots of different stuck metal plumbing items tat are just plain old bound up, but ABS or PVC traps don't get stuck like that.

They must have glued it, the one in the other bathroom was the same way, couldn't get it to budge.  It sucks I only need to move it about a 1/2" for it to work.

Cut the pipe and use a no hub coupling to put it back

Just going to use one of them Oatey Flexible P-traps.  I'd like to do it right but I can't even get two hands under the sink.

If that’s the easiest route and it doesn’t leak that’s what I would do.  I have one of those in a bathroom and it works fine
