Saw this stereotype first hand in DC at a Chevy test driving event at RFK stadium. Holy shit.

I understand but disagree with the concept of them being the most dangerous on the road.

They're benignly dangerous. As in, you're likely to be involved in a collision with one because they got confused, distracted, or they don't understand their vehicle's dimensions. The incident will happen and then they're usually freaking out and done.

However there's another group of malevolent drivers. They like all things Dodge and the Nissan Altima. And they'll go out of their way to hit you with their vehicle if you disrespect them one way or another. You see it time and again. Intentionally ramming vehicles or people.

DWA (Driving While Asian) can be several orders of magnitude more dangerous than DUI.

'Cuz you can sleep off alcohol.

That Asian crap appears to be permanent.

Just sayin'.

I’m a fan of the ADVChina YouTube channel.  Those guys often point out how Chinese people don’t get involved and sit around and watch.

Perfect example at the end of this video when everyone is watching, but who is helping?

Gotta love the ones that mash the gas pedal when they run into something.  Oh yea, like that'll make it better.

Back when I was in high school a local Boston TV station did a feature story on dangerous drivers and were focusing the whole story on teenage drivers. They were interviewing a Boston police officer who was reciting off the accident statistics for teenage drivers when the reporter asked, "Why do you think teenage drivers are the most dangerous drivers on the road?" He stopped her dead in her tracks with, "What? They're not. The most dangerous drivers on the road are Asians". The reporter was left speechless for a few moments.

I was watching with my father (a Boston police officer). We both had a good chuckle and Dad just said, "He's right".

Been to China, driven on their roads and I promise, it's not just the women.  Sure, they'll decide to turn at the last minute and cut across all lanes of traffic, turn into incoming traffic and all manor of other crap but so do the men.  The truck drivers are the worst as they drive like that because they know they're bigger than everyone else on the road.  Of course they're usually overloaded, speeding and their load is poorly secured.  I was riding my cousin's 150cc motorcycle (common size there) and about got taken out by a truck changing lanes into my lane.  If that wasn't bad enough, as he changed lanes the load of construction debris shifted and a piece of plywood in the back came flying out.    The general rule is that if you are more than halfway behind the vehicle beside or passing you then it's your responsibility to deal with anything ahead of you.  I saw some nasty wrecks and they don't seem to care about washing down the road after a pedestrian gets splattered either.

I watched a lady "park" a brand spanking new Lexus sedan in San Fran years ago.

She did it by feel.

The most amusing part is her passenger dismounted the vehicle and watched the entire thing unfold from the sidewalk.  Never uttered a word to the driver about the damage she was causing her own vehicle or the two in front of and behind her.

I was speechless.

They walked off like nothing was amiss.

AHAHHA. It is fucking true. I have seen an Asian female drive through a big giant glass window then crash into a Safeway.

As a passenger in Shanghai traffic, holy shit. My armrests had cuts in them. Saw a car flip on the Hangzhou Bay bridge. I had to tell my driver to slow down over his horrible Britney Spears CD

My neighbors across from me and one house over are of Asian descent. The son forgets to put his car in gear about once a month. It rolls out the driveway and ends up in my next door neighbors yard.

The Mom backs out without looking. I swear she is trying to hit someone the way she flies out of the drive.

The Dad is just as bad.

Collectivist vs individualist culture and the diffusion of responsibility. Pretty extensively studied in psychology.

Yeah, either that guy or SerpentZA (they make a lot of videos together) said he was in the car with his Chinese mother in law and she missed a ramp on the free way, banged a u-turn across several lanes of oncoming traffic, and exited the freeway via the on ramp, and had no idea why he was upset.

Never trust drivers from any country where people are fatalists.

And whatever it's translation is in Hindu and Chinese.

I have no experience with Asian women (thankfully) but had the misadventure of trying to give hand signals to an Indian woman (from the continent/country, not Native American) who was trying to back into a garage parking space.  I tried to help because she kept pulling forward & backing up & turning the wheel so she kept winding up in the same exact place.

I tried to give her hand prompts/signals & when she ignored me, I walked away.

She successfully took two parking spots after spending five minutes moving back & forth trying to park.

Yikes!  India is in the Asian tectonic plate, isn’t it?

The thing I don't get about this stereotype is that it conflicts with the other stereotype that Asians will follow any rule without question.  What is driving but a set of rules?
