Do you invent, make, grow or repair things? Do you produce tangible things of value?
Or are you a politician, lawyer, banker, cop, etc? Is your job "make work" that is a product of our current society? Full disclosure, I don't produce anything, but I did when I was younger. |
I guess growing trees counts although they do most of the work themselves.
I am not. I take the ideas of smarter people and make them a reality.
I wish I was a producer, but we all have our roles. |
No real work is gross. I just make stuff on a computer and then do a mountain of paperwork so other people can make real things
My job is to make sure other people can do their jobs effectively.
Yes. I make things. Even made enough children to piss of a rabid environazi.

I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed.

I performed maintenance on machines, does that count?
Hmmm... are plumbers, autotechs, truckers etc. producers? |

No, I'm retired
But, I have a garden, fruit trees and some chickens |
I mostly measure things, and produce data and information, occasionally analysis of information to produce knowledge.
I write curriculum.
Then, I lead and support teachers facilitating their classes that have adopted the curriculum. |

Retired after 40 years in Marine Transportation.

Yup, work in a trade that produces things, and my side gig is building things.
I make sure electrons get from substations to peoples homes and businesses.

I'm applaud that you think something like banking doesn't produce tangible value.

What makes you think professionals don't produce?
Deliverables are usually a pretty important part of our economy. |
Does typing on a keyboard, clicking a mouse & talking on the phone produce anything?...

I work in a hospital ER. This means that my primary function is cock-blocking Darwin.
I manage 6 Sales Consultants who are responsible for $22M in annual sales.
You want your booze, right? |

Retired, but spent my life in the residential drywall business.

We could say that without patent attorneys, there would be less incentive to invent/innovate. But I’m thinking direct producer vs indirect. |

View Quote I don’t discount the importance of my own job in the construct of our current society. However, if a meteor were to hit Earth tomorrow, we would wish we understood farming, not law. |

Used to be a service technician and am now a sales manager for a manufacturer. I go to bat for the guys in the factory so that they can keep building. Tangible in that at the end, I see our product installed and am proud of that fact.

I'm in advertising, so mostly I produce ads and sales promotions and photography, though I often have a hand in the design and engineering of our products.
I do consider myself a maker rather than a taker. |
