I'm headed to the Mojave Desert/Death Valley area in March in a very capable Jeep.  I'm looking for recommendations on trails and what not to miss.  I will have 4 days.  Probably 2 days in Mojave and 2 days in Death Valley.

Yeah, sorta--four years stationed at NTC; two of these as an OC, driving a M151A2 (Jeep) and Hummer in some spectacularly desolate and messed-up areas. Often drove up to the border of NTC and Death Valley--no discernable difference to speak of.

I was stationed at NTC  in 95-96. I was third shop and supported the OC teams out in the field. I stayed with Dragon Team out in the field and was the recovery asset for all OC teams . I also operated a M88 when we had to clean up all the old vehicles that were used as hard targets during the summer of 95.

@jagdkommando, there is no difference in terrain between Ft Irwin, Death Valley or other open areas in the general area. Make sure you know how to cross ditches/dry creeks and maneuver over boulders and you will be fine. I rarely had to recover a stuck vehicle while stationed at NTC. The recoveries I did were mostly break downs.

@jagdkommando

When in March?

I have a Mojave road trip all planned and ready to go as soon as I get a free weekend (planning to do a thursday night/friday night/drive home Saturday trip)

Death Valley is way too big to see all of in 2 days, but I can share my maps and help you figure out how to make the most of it.  Maybe shoot me a PM?

It does in my book.

I got to know NTC quite well while supporting OPS Group out in the field.
