Sight unseen, no way.   The ones we had in the early 1980’s were worn out.  When you ran it sounded like you were running with a bucket of bolts.

Not sure if you know.  The last military 1911’s were made in 1945

The ones in good shape and matching are going to bring a premium

This. Way way way over priced for guns that are likely beat to shit. They're parts guns that people are drooling over because OMG WARLD WOR TOOOOO!!! I have hundreds of WW2 General Motors and Kelsey-Hayes 50 cals sitting in my armory right now getting ready to be issued, and no one gives a fuck about them. Why? Because they're giant piles of monkey fuck that break constantly and regularly go back to Anniston for overhaul or melt down.

With that said, best of luck to those hoping for a Singer.

I have a Garand from the CMP.

I won the lottery on the carbines last go around and got a nice Inland.

I might apply in the chance I’ll get one so I can have the whole trifecta from them.

Nope.  Not paying exorbitant amounts for rattle trap turds.

They're collectors items.....not shooters.

Too much money and way too much hassle.

Already have more 1911's than I'll ever need, anyway.

Thanks for the reminder.  I'll roll the dice to see if I make the cut for a service grade one.

I will be. In the future the CMP paperwork will add value over a similar gun in similar condition

I printed the order packet and came to my senses.  History is nice but not worth the extra cost.  At these prices I can get a brand new 1911.

Service Grade $1050. Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition.

Field Grade $950. Pistol may exhibit minor rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition.

Rack Grade $850. Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistol requires minor work to return to issuable condition.

Has nothing to do with being authentic. Look at guns selling on Gunbroker with DCM or CMP paperwork versus without.
They command a premium over similar guns without that provenance

I'm not a collector, so no.

And if you think the CMP hasn't culled the prime or rare specimens from the lot(s) for auction, you're going to be disappointed.

Yes.

Prices are close if not little less than market.

I'm sure back in 1963 people bitched that $18 for a DCM 45 was too much.

I'm putting in for one. I was issued one, it was a rattle trap, and I still shot a perfect score on the quail course. I've spent $1k on dumber shit.

What white board/hardware are you using to mount?

Already have. Sent it in on the 4th.  CMP forums are full of people sending in orders.  Many admit that they sent them in postmarked before September 4th.  CMP said that those will be trashed and the people will have to resubmit.

I probably won't get lucky enough to get one though.....

I use slot wall inside my vault. I take clear tubing and slip it over the slot wall hooks so there is no metal to metal contact

Maybe after seeing how the first released batch looks, but probably not.

I have a ''few'' already and other then 2 of them, all cost less then their lowest grade.

My US&S and WW1 1917 Colt cost more but both are pretty nice and all correct.

OTOH, I sold a seriffed sideways H marked ww1 barrel a bit over a year ago for around 3 K. I had $50 into it.

I was gonna go for one mostly because I have a CMP M1, but I bought a boat instead.

The numbers available is so small that the odds of getting one are slim to none. I bet 10's of thousands will submit for one even at their high prices. Not even gonna try at the prices they are asking.

But don't forget that submitting now will get you in line for any future allocations of pistols released for sale.
I read somewhere that they are expecting 100k applications for the 8k pistols the received.

Nope.

If I'm submitting paperwork to buy something then waiting an indeterminate amount of time, its going to West Virginia to buy something cool, not an obsolete, worn out, boat anchor.

Since there is a one per person limit, it would be kind of hard to neckbeard them.

I will be sending in my packet in a day or so, just waiting to get it notarized.

I love these CMP threads, you find out quick that many Arfcommers have no clue about the current US military firearms market. The $1,050 service grades could be flipped for a $500 or more profit upon receipt, if one were so inclined. If I luck up and get one, I will be keeping it, but I suspect a fair number will show up on Gunbroker.
