So what does it take to get something like that created? Seems like both GD and the DIY forums have many threads on "work benches" or garage/shop related topics.... There are other sites that have massive threads about such subjects, and have a wealth of information, why cant we? I think of ARF.Com as my go to for just about everything, from shit posting in GD, to tech forums for gun related things, hell even a bigfoot forum... Why not a dedicated forum for all things "shop/garage" related? Id much rather keep my internet traffic on a place I support ( and was founded about 8 miles as the crow flies from where I post ) rather then support some yuppie Xiden loving forum...

Mods? can we do this? whats it take? do I have to fluff a penguin?

I second that!   I'm just finishing up an addition and renovation of our house and then I'm going to figure out what I want to do with the barn.

I'm in.

I love working on my cars, have learned a metric shit-ton about doing it both in person and online over the past 20 years.

If there's anything I could ever pass along that helps someone, I'm all for it.

worst case Ontario, we make a dedicated thread for a while, and see the traffic it gets and perhaps prove the need? I know I would be posting in it daily... I live in my garage, and am constantly looking for way to upgrade, and increase my productivity in my small space...

This would be the ticket, all things garage related, not just wood/metal working, reloading, but also a place where mechanics can hang out, and help us DIYers not get raped...

Have you looked in there?  Seems to be a bunch of garage/shop threads.

Edit: reread your OP and you mentioned the DIY forum. Didn't catch that the first time.

I’d like one where the shelf life is a bit longer to keep out of archive between updates.. I checked out the DIY forum, and that maybe has potential for a garage takeover if it’s not viable to get an actual garage subforum

The problem with the DIY forum, is that its so random... So threads like what Im suggesting that get their own forum get lost in the wash... There will be and overlap, as in most of us do not hire out to build our shops or garages.. However, It might unclog the DIY forum with some of the repeats on work benches, or garage floors... ect... I just dont know if it would get enough traffic to support its own forum or not? however there are entire websites dedicated to such things that makes me think otherwise... And in todays climate, having this forum and its members branching out into more than just firearm related forums might help our cause? I love the members here, and their collective knowledge, theres no reason to limit ourselves in my opinion...

things change when a man finally has his own space to create/fix/destroy.... I think our fore fathers missed and very important amendment, as I think all man need a space in which to do work, free from woman and their negativity...

I enjoy Garage Journal. I enjoy the nature of GD and welcome a hybrid GJ+GD=

Gotta have some place to show off our Chinese stuff after hating on the Chinese in other threads.

I collect mostly vintage US tools of all kinds. Harbor Freight recently stole my money in the form of some rolling tool chests. One 44", two 22", and one 5-drawer roller cart.

Some things are better posted in GD, like the dryer, you will have to milk that shit to page 2 sometimes but the responce times are much faster. I like the idea of anything shop and garage related but once they move stuff out of the mainstream it dies.

I am in the process of trying to have a workshop built.

Due to frame construction costs, it appears that some type of metal building is in order.

I have been looking at metal frame structures, but would also like to know about red iron building costs.

Seems no one wants to tell you anything right now to actually be able to plan a project . I am specifically concerned about moisture issues common in metal buildings

Any insight?

Not that it matters, but I'd be for it.

Roll the metalworking subforum into it.

I kind of like the idea of it, but I think subforums are highly underutilized. It's a part of GD. Find a thread you are interested in, subscribe, and keep it alive. A dedicated shop BS thread would be cool too.

I wonder if that link will break next time I edit the title?

The upside of a subforum, new or invaded, is a thread wouldn’t get buried 10 pages back in an hour and a half.
