I'm missing the photos.  Just saying that is a forum violation.  Or if it isn't it should be,

Monte Montgomery is a big fan of them and has his own signature model.

Monte Montgomery "All On Me"

Sweet.  While I don't play dreads often good ones can be awesome sounding.  I've never played a yairi.  Would love to A/B it to some of my guitars.

I have not kept up with how production has progressed and the Co news since Kazuo Yairi passed, but IMHO based upon their heritage and the pride I believe they take in their art (pride is probably a poor choice of words for the JP company - it's maybe something I'd have to ponder for the term), I would suspect they are still outstanding, assuming they are still being MIJ.

I would assume the quality is still very high.  As high as when he was alive?  I don't know.  But very high.  Same with Fender electric guitars made in Japan.  Very high quality instruments easily as good as made in USA.

I have an Alvarez Artist that I picked up in a pawn shop in a college town in ‘94 that sounds amazing.

A DY99 or DY98 with the Modulus Graphite neck is a dream guitar for me.  Pretty rare and quite expensive when they come up for sale.

Played one from the late 70s and it was a fantastic guitar.

Is it cedar or just old?

I have a Seagull S6+CW with a cedar top.  Love the sound of cedar.

At one point I had a cedar Alvarez nylon.  Sounded pretty but not loud enough for me.
