5 gallon food safe buckets along with Gamma Seal lids are gone from every Lowes/Home Depot in my area. Usually they sit around because they are more expensive than Homer buckets, but they are gone, with no restock as of late.
Costco has been bonkers lately, with people filling carts with large amounts of staples such as beans, rice, sugar, flour, etc. I've never seen anything like this before. Either they fear rising inflation/food prices, or are filling their larders for "hard times" ahead. The local Mormon pantries are cleaned out or no longer selling to non-LDS. Anyone else seeing similar things? |

Grocery stores week ordinarily give you free buckets from their bakery department.

Maybe because they're made in China? Stuck off the coast of California? Maybe?

I just bought 5 buckets from a pallet that had over 100 on it. Should I sell them on Ebay?

Thanksgiving straining supply?
Or did you guys hear the same rumor from truckers about the strike/protest in the beginning of December? |
|
Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up. Buying in bulk at a warehouse club is kinda the norm. My wife bought huge bags of flour, sugar, etc. every holiday season.
And shortages of specific items are kinda the norm. More likely that Lowes discontinued them or is having delays getting more in than a rush on them by preppers who "know something." All the shopping I've done lately has been business as usual. |

I don't get out to the big box stores, so I can't speak about what's going on there except for online shopping.
The grocery stores I've been to seem like everything's normal, with an empty spot here or there, but plenty of sales items. Online, some things are out of stock. We have been shopping more frequently, expanding the pantry and beefing it up substantially. You wouldn't know it if you were a casual observer. It's not like we fill three carts and ring up $800. I'll make my third grocery run for the week tomorrow. People we know who always have stocked up on items are now doing this. Filling gaps, finding more room to store things, buying essentials that might not be available in six months, like a sump pump or an extra chain saw. |

One advantage of living in a blue state is that the locals are too stupid to prep and clean out supplies.

Maybe the same about if buckets are sold but they can’t replace them so it appears they keep selling out.

Swamp is going to overreach, and then it's on. Everybody has been pretty comfy here the last 70 years. That is not how the world works.

Supply chain issues. The HD I work part time at is out of Homer buckets. Yes the are made in China and most likely sitting offshore.

i suspect it is less people buying them up and more being unable to replenish stock that has normally sold. 90% of americans don't see a problem other than some empty shelves that the news has told them is due to covid and will be over soon.

I once saw a woman walking backwards on a hiking trail. Sure sign of the end times. |

Is a food safe, gamma seal bucket necessary if you're using heat sealed Mylar bags? Seems like any 5 gallon would be fine

Does this mean Ann-Margret is not coming?
I just go to regular grocery stores and while they're light in a lot of areas it isn't in the staples of survival. Like the last two times I've hit the store before work I haven't been able to get the Tennessee Pride breakfast chicken sandos. We've been slowing buying the three month free dried tubs. I want to go to costco to pick up the big staples to hedge against any craziness. |

Dude, Home Depot is literally out of caulking guns right now. Do you think people are stocking up on caulking guns???

Meh, I'm thinking there's a lot of people brining their birds for Thanksgiving this year.
