Yeah, the first season has been done a few months now but I didn’t see a thread. Anyone else watch it? Anyone else have the same reaction that I did? HORRIBLE. I mean, it’s a serious contender to take the “Let’s Totally Fuck Up The Book” trophy from Paul Verhoeven. God, it was terrible. There were a few things I did like, but not a single one of them involved the main characters or their part of the story. The worst part is that Robert Jordan’s widow and hand-picked series continuer (Brandon Sanderson) were creative consultants. I’m thinking they both must have hated him and decided to wreck his legacy when he couldn’t do anything about it. Have I mentioned how bad it was? Let’s just say that the idea of a high-tech country called Wakanda in ancient Africa is more faithful to the real history of the continent than this series is to the books.

The guy that wrote the show said that he was looking forwards to making everyone who didn't agree with his perversity mad, part of the script got leaked and it was a horrible fanfic level thing, pushed identity bigotry and "the message" and not only wasn't like the books, it wasn't even identifiable as really being anything from the books. Unless you were looking for a nearly complete subversion hate-letter to the content of the books.

If you look at the reviews : https://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B09F59CZ7R?reviewerType=all_reviews you can see that virtually everyone who read the books and remotely liked them gave the show a zero rating, and a fair number of the people who hadn't read the books didn't like it. Than a stark gap and you get the OMG ITS THE BESTEST SHOW EVER! crew leaving five star reviews.

I haven't read the Book, but do remember watching about ten minutes of the Show and hitting the "Home" button.

Ah, the thread being in GD would be why I didn’t see it. It’s really too bad they did what they did, because the books really are good and the TV series could have been as well. A lot of people and side journeys would have had to be edited out, but the middle third of the books was just full of “why the heck did they go there/introduce that?” moments that didn’t get revisited until the last couple books and would never be missed. Oh well, let’s see if it gets 3 seasons.

Was there anything I did like? I thought Rosamund Pike made a good Moiraine, and Hammed Animashaun was a great Loial. I thought they worked Min into the story very well, rather than writing the trip through Baerlon into an already overcrowded season. When I saw the painted eyepatch I laughed and said “Uno!” And the opening scene that took place in the Age Of Legends was well done. That’s about it, though.

I liked her. But, IIRC from something I read, they REALLY expanded her role/POV. There's hundreds of thousands of words in the book series, and Moraine's POV accounts for hundreds...yes, hundreds...of them. Still, she's likely the best character in the Amazon series. The rest of them bored the crap out of me, and made me feel like I was watching young adult fanfic.

While I like Rosamund Pike...she looked old in this.  She did not look "ageless".

Unwatchable.
