SALT LAKE CITY — Republican lawmakers in several more states want to loosen gun restrictions by allowing people to carry concealed firearms without having to get a permit, continuing a trend that gun control advocates call dangerous.
Fifteen states already allow concealed carry without a permit, and lawmakers in nine others have proposed allowing or expanding the practice. GOP governors are backing the changes in Utah and Tennessee. Another bill expanding permitless carry in Montana has passed the state House. Most states require people to do things like get weapons training and undergo a background check to get a permit to carry a gun hidden by a jacket or inside a purse. Groups like the National Rifle Association and state lawmakers who support gun rights argue those requirements are ineffective and undermine Second Amendment protections. .. Against that backdrop, the efforts to loosen concealed carry requirements are a frightening trend for Shannon Watts, founder of the gun control group Moms Demand Action. “It is dangerous to allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns possibly without a background check or any training,” she said, .. The proposal in Utah would allow any U.S. citizen 21 and older to carry a concealed weapon without the now-required background check or weapons course. The bill does allow gun owners who want to carry a concealed weapon out of state to get a permit to do so after a background check and safety course. .. Supporters of the change argue that other state laws against such things as felons having guns and anyone carrying a firearm while intoxicated are enough to ensure guns are used safely. “I have that right to protect myself, the Constitution says we have the right. Why are we putting a barrier for law-abiding citizens?” said Rep. Walt Brooks, the Republican lawmaker sponsoring the bill.. .. He pointed to a multistate study published in 2018 by the Journal of the American College of Surgeons that found loosening concealed carry permit laws didn’t lead to more homicides or violent crime. .. Similar bills that would allow or expand concealed carry without a permit have been introduced in Texas, South Carolina, Florida, Indiana, Alabama and Georgia. .. https://www.al.com/news/2021/01/alabama-other-states-eye-allowing-concealed-carry-of-guns-without-a-permit.html Here, it passes the senate but fails to come out of the house Public Safety Committee. |

I’d love for that to happen here. For no other reason than saving 20$ a year for the permit

Georgia has tried and the NRA and sheriffs have fought against it. They do not want you to be over freedomed

And put an end to the sheriffs' personal slush funds?!
Yeah, I don't see it happening. |

That is the single positive to Oklahoma over Texas. Constitutional carry.

Mandatory carry. Those who oppose can move to a communist state

Good. KY passed that a few years ago. No CCDW license required. Open carry is in our constitution.

So we are the party of science now? |

I think they tried that in Utah a year or so ago and the RINO Governor at the time said he wouldn't support it. Perhaps the new guy will.
The permit in Utah only runs $35 or so every five years. Saves the $7.50 for a background check on purchases, so I presume for most it pays for itself. It's already legal for a person without a permit to carry a loaded handgun in their car here as well... |

Must be nice. The dumb fucks in my state keep electing Cooper but it doesn’t matter since Pat McCrory wouldnt sign the bill getting rid of permits when he was in because a bunch of dumb fuck sheriffs petitioned him not to.
Fuck all of them. |

Hope y’all get it. Would be nice if Texas got it this year, but I’m not holding my breath |

Even California doesn't require one on your own property, where you work, or camp.

Meanwhile, in the People's Republic of NoVa, our gun rights are going the opposite way.

The "Chamber of Commerce Republicans" keep killing it in Indiana.
They clearly enjoy holding their power over our heads, as evidenced by the failures to allow freedom with respect to guns and alcohol (you should read our alcohol laws, if you want a laugh). |

Will never happen in FL. The state is addicted to making everyone get an expensive license for everything.
Plus we will never get OC because spineless state legislators, and sheriffs of communist south FL counties are worried it will scare away the tourists. |

NC will get Constitutional Carry all right, right after everyone else does. |

We got it in MS a few years ago. It started as purse carry and quietly expanded from there.
Also, there was going to be blood in the streets and all that sort of thing. As it turns out, criminals don't care what the carry laws are. Many LEO in MS are not up to speed on the current law so there are occasional reports of someone getting threatened with a charge of "carrying without a permit", but I don't know of any that made it past the verbal stage unless another crime was involved. |

In Tennessee... hell, it's 50/50 and pick 'em whether this goes anywhere or not.
Our state-level GOP is schizophrenic as hell. I hope it passes though. I'll keep my permit renewed so I can carry in other states, but right is right, the damn thing shouldn't be required. One thing I would like to see the "gun community" come together to work on is ways to encourage (absolutely NOT mandate) people who want to carry a gun to get some (decent) training. Mandatory training requirements are total bullshit, but training itself is a good thing. |

My first ccw was from Madison County, Alabama. Late 80’s or early 90’s. IIRC, walked into the Sherrif office in the courthouse, paid my small fee and walked out with my permit. I haven’t been without a ccw since that day. Constitutional Carry should be the law of the land.

WV is Constitutional carry, open or concealed. That is also extended to visitors of our state.
Since the passing of CC, I believe the amount of blood gushing down our streets has either stayed the same or maybe even reduced some. |
