Inspired by the GD thread, "Guns you wished existed".

Just for fun. What aircraft do you wish were out there that aren't.   Could be for a personal airplane to own. Or, something you would like to be paid to fly. Whatever.

I'll go first.

Twin engine Bush plane. 4 or maybe 6 place. High wing. Exelent short field and off airport performance.  Something like a scaled down BN Islander.  I want to land places a Super Cub can land, after crossing a lot of water.

Hypersonic long range "personal" jet. King Air or 30series Lear size passenger compartment.   I split my time between Alaska and Thailand.  I would want to fly myself there in 6 hours or less.

I want a jet-powered seaplane- floats or boat hull, either one.
Turbine helicopter that can fly more than 1.5 hours at at least 200 knots.

I just want an affordable, easily maintained, very simple, robust, jet engine. 3000-5000lbf.
Make something like that and economical, personal, high performance aircraft of all kinds could be made. I'd like it even more if it could handle a burner ring.

A 2/3rds scale AN-2.

Build party like legislation for Homebuilts.

New built piston T-34B/updated Yak/Saab  primary trainer.

New JetStars.

But I'd settle for a 400ish shp turboprop, single engine plane with real world baggage space, that can cruise around 250 kts, for real world affordable costs. Probably a kit plane, if such an engine existed that wouldn't be affordable for millionaires only. This is more of a pipe dream than my first one, so lets get the JetStar line back up and running.

Why?  What makes the JetStar special besides 4 inefficient engines ?

Kelly Johnson.

That was the smoothest, toughest, best handling airplane I’ve ever experienced. It could easily compete today with two newer tech engines. In fact it was redesigned that way at the end of its run, to kick the crap out of the then new challenger 600. Interesting backstory there. Regardless, it was a true pilots airplane in the best of ways, and you can tell being from Kelly’s Skunk Works it was amazing. Got to fly a few of them for a few years, was a privilege. The F900EZ I fly now is not even close to being as fun to fly and work with. Not even close!

The JetStar cabin is amazing...really nothing was as good as it until you got into a few modern super midsizes.

Ya I'm not seriously in the market for one, but would love one down the road.  Talk about a truck with wings.  A friend recently delivered a 1970 something 185 that sold for over 300k!  It was pimped out though.

No kidding. I'd be in the market for one of those too.  A late 60's 182 with mid time engine seems to go for 60 to 100k. A similar 185 you'd be lucky to find for less than 200k.

Is it just me, or does the "Upper Deck" of that Shield Heli-Carrier go RIGHT above one of the huge air sucking lift fans?

No touch & goes off THAT flight deck!

A bigger problem is the fact that trying to fly that amount of mass with those fans would be like trying to levitate a Steelcase desk using the CPU fans from your computer.

That was the Starship. All it did was take Beech further into composites (which helped to kill it) and certified ProLine3.

The KA350 is so much more of an airplane.

While pretty, composite business aircraft kill every manufacturer that tries.

And yes I know there were a handful flying fairly recently.

The RA-4000 needs the Block Point Upgrade and access to Beechcraft ICT's 4000 experts. Lots of owners didn't want to spring for it knowing it was an orphan airframe, and paid their mechanics for it.

That said, the 4000 is an amazing aircraft.

FMA IA 58 Pucará

Has this been posted here yet? Because it seems to be in good company here.

However, I still personally much prefer a neo OV-10. The twin-boom and high-wing layout lends itself much better to multiple roles.

It's funny how a light COIN aircraft keeps appearing useful, decade after decade, and the services (primarily AF) can't ever bring themselves to support such a thing?

This, and C-182’s for $65,000.     There really isn't any reason this couldn't be accomplished.

I posted a while back asking about a 4 seat Aerobatic aircraft.
Something like a Maule or 172, but where I could relive the fun of aviation once in a while.  Don’t need inverted fuel/oil.  Just good for 6g’s.
