Weren't we told there were no rivets on the Liberty Ship hulls....all welded? View Quote Maybe on some other timeline! Totally bazillions of rivets used in this one! Click To View Spoiler Because having students spending their time gluing tiny dots to hulls makes us very happy! WE don't have to listen to the griping! Rivets holding the deck down. Rivets holding the rivets down. I like this plan! |

Looking great! You have a Nice 3D Printer if the deck gun was all in one go! What are you using to simulate the ribbed hatches not he Liberty ship deck? Look like boards glued together but I am guessing something simpler.

There probably need to be some instances of Kilroy Was Here on board, particularly on any crates on deck.

The clock is Beautiful! Very accurate detail, the hands look great as well (I'm assuming they still work).
Is one of the liberty ships going to get a hole punched in it or was that idea scrapped? |

Thank you for looking that up again. I searched for that on Amazon and never found it. We think we have a plan for sculpting with the beads and wire to give them structure. Hopefully in the next couple weeks we can get a better idea of how it will work. |

We went down to the U-Boat display and did a little planning. We decided on a slightly different position for our larger Liberty ship.....like on the opposite side of the room. It will have a similar dive to the U-Boat for a little continuity in our display, and because it will offer the best advantage for our viewers. We have ordered lights, and the 1100 plastic bubble balls have come in already. We want to do something similar to the bubbles on our U-Boat. There was much discussion as to when we should begin the sculpture of the hole, and we came to a consensus that we wanted the base structure in place before we get all of our detail texture(panels) on the hull. They were all too eager to slice into our pretty hull. https://i.imgur.com/I79dhdm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/54iQTY5.jpg We are attaching wires inside the hull to our main beam. These will help to support and sculpt our explosion/air/oil mixture. https://i.imgur.com/mVFyUmS.jpg We also started sculpting plexiglass flows that will be a platform for our bubbles. https://i.imgur.com/Lggo6dI.jpg https://i.imgur.com/9xVRg9t.jpg View Quote That’s how a target should look!! What do the lifeboat hoists look like during deployment? Are there any pictures? How do they work? Are they solid, or do they swing out? Thanks again for the help! |

That will be very helpful. We were picking out a hull color yesterday. That will make it easier. We have a plan for the sinking ship, as far as color. We want to shoot the whole thing with an aqua color(similar to room color ) so it appears underwater. |

It's too bad you don't have a navigable waterway, so that the Jeremiah O'Brien could be brought upriver for a hands-on inspection.

Maybe put paper mache over the hardware strapping holes so it isn't as clear what sort of materials you used? Have a big press in metal shop to rip some of that hardware strap inn half or more ripped/natural ends? Even ripped paper won't look so "cut" as the perforated metal strips.

View Quote We chose the pipe strap because of the holes. In the damage pictures we found, it mimics the structure/bulkhead damage. We do need to cut the ends to a more torn type contour. |
