Really? This must be sarcasm. I thought it was still high. I noticed the SR1 was something like $280 and the Ultimate hunter was listed as $180. They were selling Ultimate hunters as low as $80 last year. SR1 I don't know, but it doesn't strike me as a $280 knife.

We discussed this in this thread. Did you not follow along after the pic was posted? It is a social media pic taken out of context. Go to Instagram, read what he said. Unlike other retailers he didn’t put something up he wouldn’t stand behind and then take it down. It is still there.

Not one of two ever made, just one of the two alternatives I was watching for. I doubt very much that I even know all of the different patterns they've done. Heck I don't even know all the inlays, sometimes I see one and hadn't even realized they ever did it.

BRK was using it as one of their main stainless steels on their big fixed blades (but I wouldn't be surprised if they switch over to S45VN entirely now that that is available).

From the makers side it is easy to work with, grinds easy and takes a nice shine. Performance wise it has good durability, takes a nice edge, decent retention, it is easy to sharpen. It is American made (Emerson is big on that).

Emerson is all about making his stuff as easy as possible for people to work with. If you are in the middle of nowhere, you will still probably be able to find a Phillips head or slotted screwdriver to work on your knife if needed. Dull? Sharpen it on the top edge of your car window or the bones of your enemies. No diamonds necessary (but they do make it easier).

He has used S35VN on limited runs and dealer exclusives and I think on the XHDs, which is still in line with the brand image, otherwise they used ATS-34 up until ~2000ish and then went to 154. It fits with their whole brand persona. Pretty sure he uses 154 on his customs too.

Would I like to see them switch over to S45VN? Yeah. Will 154 stop me from getting them? Nope. I like 154.

Protech still uses it too. It takes a fine edge.

Trying to get a pic of the sick edge I put on this Protech. It came with a very blunt edge. It didn't slice well at all. I widened the heck out of the bevel.

CPM 154 does ok too.

The CPM 154 feels harder when sharpening. It also was like AUS8 and 8Cr13MoV in that it seemed harder to raise a burr.

154CM and VG-10 seem very similar to me. Easy to sharpen and takes a fine edge.

I would guess the CPM version costs more and isn't really worth the increased cost.
