Kinda weird that the ELD went deeper than the SST. They both will obviously get the job done though!

I expected the SST to expand sooner and more which would yield the results we have seen. Thanks for test! View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

When we did 123gr A-MAX gel tests versus 123gr SST, the high velocity impact performance was extremely close, with almost identical expansion and penetration.
A nice thing about these 12" tests is that they show what behavior would be like at 150yds if your mv was 2500fps from a longer barrel. |

Makes me feel very comfortable using my grendel. Thanks for testing.

That's great. Now where can one buy a decent supply of 6.5 Grendel ammo that is not a $1 or $1.50 per round?

American gunner at sportsman's warehouse. $139 for 200rds.
Wolf steel case $229 per 1000. Neither are hunting rounds but would work in a pinch, ie shtf event. Great for plinking and function checks. |

Thanks for the test!
any interest in testing Wolf 100gr 6.5G? I would certainly send you some, but it's like $5 a box. Probably cost more to ship it thanks! |

That is nice expansion, good weight retention, and fabulous penetration. Like a previous person posted...either one would get the job done....and do a mighty good job of it too.
I am an unashamed Grendel fan, and think it is an excellent round. However, I think the Mutant mid size receivers are just perfect for this cartridge. I had two grendel's break bolts until I learned about truing the face of the upper receiver, and after that never had another one shear. For practical rifle matches that go past 600 yards, the Grendel is perfect... about 20% more recoil than a 5.56, hits steel plates with about 70% the energy of a 308, and stays supersonic at least as far as a 308. |

Now that bluefalcon is banned who do we contact to send the ammo to? I have some 100 and 120 Nosler handloads he can test if he is willing. Both are light loads, I don't play around with hot reloads. View Quote |

My oldest is a couple years away from being old enough to hunt, was originally thinking a bolt action .243 in a youth stock would be the way to go, but now I'm thinking that a Grendel upper for his AR would be perfect.
While .223/5.56 is legal for deer here in Utah, 6.5 would give him some flexibility for elk as well. |

Hi- FWIW- here is a bullet from this round recovered from a whitetail I shot yesterday. 12.5” barrel deer was 100-150 yards away...

Quoted: Where was the jacket and core at inside the deer? Which 6.5 load? View Quote The deer was quartering away, the bullet went through rib cage and lungs. I actually wasn’t looking for the bullet but noticed the core lying on the ground as I was dressing the deer. I found the jacket embedded in the hide opposite of where it entered, it had travelled forward through the deer quite a ways. |

Thanks,again ! Excellent video.
Proved that it is the best in the AR platform, for me. Have been shooting mine almost two years now. Got a bolt gun too. Does all i need ,for a rifle caliber. |

A guy in Canada just used the 123gr ELD-M to do this: http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j422/LRRPF52/65%20Grendel%20Reloading/20181113_214120_zpspwhux8bi.jpg View Quote |

My 12yo got a nice muley doe this year with the Black 123 ELD load and 12" carbine.
We hunted the high country and stalked to 215y. Nearly broadside, entry textbook behind the shoulder, fragged the opposite shoulder, core exited at an angle through the diaphragm and nicked the top of the stomach, punching a small hole in the hide leaving. Great performance at low velocity. May use for cow elk later if hunting in the trees. |

Please take it to the pit.
I like the gel test videos, they are well done and the perfect length. This was a thread about the ELD-M out of a Grendel and it gave me needed info. I knew BF was banned and didn’t care why as long as the videos still got made. As a simple noname user I ask this thread stay on track. |
