Spent most of the day yesterday shooting my 6.5x47 and 6.5 creedmoor at a thousand yards. My shooting partners had another 6.5x47 and 6mm creedmoor.
Hitting 12x16 plates was not a problem the clay birds at 900 was getting the best of us

Yup, I can think of hundreds of calibers that will do that all day long..........

The only thing keeping me from getting in on that fad is brass. I can’t convert from something cheap. It’s already keeping me from spending any time at all with my 338 (well that and all the prep work). And I’m already short on brass for the calibers I have.

I like the idea though. I like my 7mm-08, and eventually will likely build the PSA lower I have into either it or the 6.5.

I don't know why you would want to convert brass, 6.5 Creedmoor brass is relatively inexpensive.
However it is extremely easy to convert .243 brass to 6.5 Creedmoor, you can also convert .308 brass but it takes another couple of steps.
In fact I started out with converted .243 brass back when 6.5 Creedmoor brass was hard to get.

Really?  I thought it had something else as the parent case.

All my 7mm-08 was made from range pickup 308.  I stocked up on once fired during the panic buying.  Converted my 308 to a 338 then picked up the 7mm cause I missed having a short action.

Can you list a dozen short action cartridges with available off the self loads, with similar BC and MV numbers?

This is why it is great for newbs. You can buy factory match ammo.

the annoying part is when people suggest (in the hunting forum) it is better in every way than a 308.

It's obviously not better in every way than .308, but living in a place surrounded by BLM land, my .308 has taken a back seat to my 6.5cm. I shoot more accurately at farther distance with the 6.5cm.

So is .260 Rem.  But they are a good intermediate between .308 Win and .300WM, and are semi-auto.

I use a 230 Berger at 2850 fps in .300WM when I really need long range performance.  The 6.5 class is just to make hits a little easier than .308.

Yeah, suggesting a cartridge to a newb where they would have to handload any match ammo they shoot is a bad suggestion. so they can get almost as good performance from factory with the 6.5

I know the stats of the round . I started loading 178 ELD's and getting some impressive results .

I'm not exactly where I want to be with it yet  but when I am I don't think I'd have a problem past 1000  with the rifle I'm using.
