80,000 people died last year. Are we setting ourselves up for an epidemic like in 1918?
http://www.fox5ny.com/news/over-40-percent-of-americans-say-no-to-flu-vaccinations Have you gotten your flu shot this year? If the answer is no - and I'm not getting one! - you're not alone. A new study finds more than 40 percent of Americans have not been vaccinated and, in fact, don't plan on it either. This is despite the warnings, potential dangers, and last year's record-number of flu deaths. The survey was done by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. People under the age of 45 were the least likely to report being vaccinated. The top three reasons why they didn't want the shot were: bad side effects; thinking they'll get the flu from the shot; or thinking it doesn't work. Some think the side effects are worse than the flu itself, but that's just a myth. Usually the only side effect is a sore arm. It's also a myth that getting the vaccine gives you the flu. The flu vaccine is inactive and cannot cause the infection. If you do get sick after getting the vaccine, it's just a coincidence. And while it is true that the vaccine doesn't work 100 percent of the time, the benefit is that it lessens the severity. If you do still get the flu you're 60 percent less likely to need treatment. |

Half the country is retarded, so this is a result I’d expect.

Don’t most say you don’t need it unless young, old, or have a compromised immune system?
I don’t get one, probably won’t and haven’t gotten an actual flu in over 15 yrs at least. |
|
Meh. It was 100% free with my insurance at CVS so I got one.
|
|
I won't either. I'll take my chances with my immune system. Seems like just a waste of time to me.

I haven’t had a flu shot in 8 years. I haven’t had the flu for 8 years. Every time I got a flu shot before that, I would get the flu. Probably a coincidence, but I have enjoyed very good health. I am not anti vaccination, but the effectiveness of a flu shot is negligible.

I feel like shit for 2 days if I get one or I can risk it. I risk it and for 10 years I’ve been lucky.

Wife and kid got the flu shot last year. They both got the flu. I skipped it and didn't get it....I'm the guy in the house who always gets it.
Anecdotal and doesn't mean much, I just thought it strange. |

Perfectly harmless, you're an anti-vaxxer if you disagree https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/-/5-2167192/?
Without being in a risk setting like dealing with vulnerable patients, considering the tenuous efficacy I'll take a hard pass as usual. |

didnt the last study show that the flu shot greatly increase the chances of it spreading?

i’m 38 , never got the flu shot until this past octorber. I got the flu last year and it sucked and I got my kids sick. Ended taking them to emergency room more than once. We all tried this year and we will see. So far we have not gotten sick. If you have little ones i recommend saving your self a trip to the emergency room and get the shot.

|
I get one every year because my wife loves to stab me with the needle.
|
|
I get one
The real actual flu is a mother fucker not rhe sniffles most idiots call flu |
|
They were doing them at work this year so I gave in and got one.

I have never gotten one, and have only gotten the flu twice, as a kid.

My whole family (wife and 2 kids) got our shots this year. I am on day 3 of recovery from Influenza A. Wife is on day 5. We get the shot every year. Neither of us has had flu in over 15 years before this time.
The shot isn't 100% effective but I'll do anything that increases my chances of not dealing with this bullshit. |
|
It's free so I usually get one. My local Publix Pharmacy gives you a gift card for getting one there, so it's a net win.
But we went years without any significant vaccine and didn't see a pandemic. Vaccinations don't eliminate, just reduce the chance of infection, and only if they guess right that year. Sure more people that vaccinate the better, but it's really only important for children, the elderly, expecting parents, and people with compromised immune systems. |

I have gotten some movement back and am not pissing and shitting myself anymore. To say I have mixed feelings about it is an understatement... I have rarely gotten the flu.
Ironically, the worst flu I ever got was the year I got the flu shot. Never again. |
|
Can't even remember the last time I got the Flu shot.
I get sick like once a year, well, twice now thanks to my kids and the crap they catch. Still alive somehow... |
