The Race’s sources within the Suzuki MotoGP team have confirmed the bombshell news that the 2020 world championship-winning team will withdraw from the series at the end of the year, leaving both Joan Mir and Alex Rins without a ride, the premier class short one manufacturer and dozens of staff unemployed. The incredible news has come from absolutely nowhere, with new team principal Livio Suppo (hired only a few months ago) speaking to The Race only days ago at the Portuguese Grand Prix about his desire to retain both riders for next season and beyond. Elon Musk should fund it. Call the team Racex.
Dorna speaks: Dorna has issued the following statement in response to 'rumours' Suzuki will leave MotoGP at the end of this season, warning 'the conditions of their contract do not allow for them to take this decision unilaterally' View Quote I’m thinking maybe Dorna and and a privateer team and sponsor step in and fund/run the team a la Honda and Red Bull in F1. The bean counters at Suzuki have run the numbers and with inflation running rampant, the just aren’t enough cookies in the jar. MotoGP is insanely expensive and it’s about to get a lot more so. It’s a damn shame because their bike is competitive. Silly season is about to be promoted to completely retarded season. There are not enough seats to go around even if no one moves up from moto2 but Ogura or Some Cunt are definitely taking over Nakagamis seat. So there’s one move. Canet and Vieti need seats too. So who else is out? Dovi and D Binder probably, Alex Marquez too unless he needs a permission slip from his brother. Olivera? Maybe. Digi? Maybe. Fernandez and Gardner? Not likely but possible unless they start showing more promising results. Miller could even be out by default. Not because he should be but just because the music stops and he doesn’t have a chair. The only real solution is Dorna funds the team and either Suzuki or Aprilia build the bikes. |

Maybe Yamaha can pick up one or both of them. They need someone other than Quartararo.

Dovi brings his sponsor and Yamaha pays him. My money was always on Toprak on Dovi’s bike next year. If Suzuki leaves that’s still two seats and rider paychecks gone. |

Here's a short "emergency podcast" from The Race that explains some of the nuances regarding the satellite teams. Apparently you can't just add another team that easily. Dorna pays the satellite teams from a pool of cash and that cash would have to split between more teams. The other satellite teams could say no. Quoted: Didn't consider the KTM angle. Interesting, thanks for posting. View Quote KTM has three factory teams in Moto3, Gas Gas, Husqvarna, and KTM. All essentially rebranded KTMs. Theoretically they could do the same in MotoGP and each one of those teams could theoretically have a satellite team. I don’t think they have the money for that though. |

Finally a statement from Suzuki:
Suzuki Motor Corporation is in discussions with Dorna regarding the possibility of ending its participation in MotoGP at the end of 2022. Unfortunately, the current economical situation and the need to concentrate its effort on the big changes that the Automotive world is facing in these years, are forcing Suzuki to shift costs and human resources to develop new technologies. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our Suzuki Ecstar Team, to all those who have supported Suzuki's motorcycle racing activities for many years and to all Suzuki fans who have given us their enthusiastic support. Terrible start for Fabio
Pecco had a bad day The Suzukis imploded The beast is back MM realizing he's a top 10 racer now Rumors say Miller to KTM next year |

Surprised Fabio made it through the start - that was brutal. Check out 41's shoulder cam of the start... just insane.
https://www.motogp.com/en/video_gallery/2022/05/12/french-gp/420132?n=421144 Pecco is showing mental weakness - did not expect that. But he did cook his tire. Rins and Mir were trying to give each other Pol's ride. 23 looked super strong and I think he just got Jack's ride from 89. 93 (still) needs to retire. The Jack thing to KTM makes sense, wonder who the rookie is they'll bring in? Maybe he crashed out while leading moto2? Some great racing today across every class. Would have liked to see Cam on the steps but great ride. |

People were shitting on the purple but I like the new livery. No clue who Prima is.
Although the deal has not yet been signed, Autosport understands that the intention of both parties is to sign it before the next round of the calendar in Barcelona next week. Everything is in place for RNF, the former Sepang Racing Team (SRT), headed by Razlan Razali, to stop racing Yamaha bikes after four years. The teams met at Le Mans to settle the matter, but Yamaha asked Razali for more time until Mugello, where the Italian Grand Prix takes place this weekend. However, the response the Malaysian executive got back in Italy seems to have left him unsatisfied. It is still unclear whether Yamaha will compete next season with just two bikes, which on paper will be Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli, or whether they will team up with another team in view of the void left by Suzuki. Aprilia have been considering the possibility of a satellite team for some time, although a lack of infrastructure on the one hand and a lack of offers on the other have delayed the consolidation of the project. A few weeks ago, however, Massimo Rivola, Aprilia's racing CEO, acknowledged to Autosport that this route was not yet dead: "If we receive interesting offers that can make the project grow, we will evaluate it". 93 to have 4th shoulder surgery and miss part of this season. I don't see how he comes back, but even if he does, he will still never get #9. Kind of ironic this happening the day they retired 46's number.
