It's a dumpster fire. Run like hell.
I commute 60 miles a day round trip to work. The fuel economy is appealing. I need a four wheel drive truck. I'm figuring someone on arf has one. What's your opinion please? |

2021 ram ecodiesel it's a dumpster fire run like hell
Does anyone have one What's your opinion Wat |

Not first hand, but I've heard that it doesn't get that good of mileage. Just a little better.
When my 18 CC hemi 4x4 was new (stock tire), I could set cruise on 73mph and get 21mpg. Still get 19 with bigger tires. Excellent truck so far. My second one. |

What's your opinion please? View Quote I feel like this got ran through a Yoda translator. If you are serious, they get decent fuel mileage (mid 20's highway), but still have all of the emissions crap of a larger diesel. They are about as good as you'll likely do in a full size 4wd truck. Why do you need to commute in a 4wd truck? It takes a certain amount of energy to drive a 6000lb brick through the air at highway speed. The physics say it's never going to be an very efficient vehicle for commuting. I say this as someone who drives an F150. |

My father has a 2020 model. He likes it. Very nice interior. Lots of power and fairly good economy.
I think Dodge finally got their transmission design issues sorted out. Or maybe they just use Allison transmissions now and that solved it. Seems like a solid truck. |
|
Get a tune from green diesel.
Egr/def delete from Canada when someone finally makes a kit. Your commute is ideal for this engine. Short trips will kill it until egr/def delete is done. |

What are you trying to say? You have an ecodiesel and it's not good or you hear they're not good and are trying to confirm?

I use to think a small diesel 1/2 would be great for mid weight towing, but the F150 3.5EB has better numbers without diesel hassle.

Mine reads high by almost 1 mpg. I have the Hemi and considered the diesel but with my short commute the DPF system would be going in to regen a lot which kills mileage, I believe. |

My 2015 Ram Ecodiesel caught fire on a family trip due to a recall. Whole truck burnt to the ground.
Father in law had a 2018 Ecodiesel and the engine blew while pulling 7000 pound trailer. I'll never buy or recommend another ecodiesel. |

I just gave my 2016 Eco Laramie back to the dealer 4 full sets of injectors in 3 years. ( $1600 a set) thank God Almighty for the extended warranty I got. I loved the truck as a whole. but the clogging injectors were a pain in the ass and $$$ I got my ass back into a HEMI ( the dealer did me right) the last time it clogged up and I took it in the Service Manager said I was the 4th Eco to be brought in on that saturday morning. the Service Manager was telling me about all the Soccer Moms who has started buying the Jeep Model and they were throwing shit fits in the dealership about their jeeps not being able to driven because of the injector issue. EPA Emission standards have ruined a good engine and diesel engines as a whole. they say HWY driving is what that engine is made more and that city driving will kill it. I did both. a shit ton of HWY driving and it still broke every month. I never got close to the MPG it was suppose to happen and I took the money they offered for the settlement and after the work they did on for the settlement it got 10X worse. Go Gas.. |

If it's the same one Jeep is using, I've read nothing but issues with them in Wranglers.

Dad has one, he isn't a fast driver and rarely gets over 20 mpg. A buddy has the Ford 150 diesel and gets 23. The ram is several years old, 2015, old enough that he got over $3000 back for emission fraud. Not impressed with it, lots of recalls but no break downs other than the GPS is constantly fucked.

I really like my 14' outdoorsman w/ the hemi and ZF8 speed. Diesel repair costs kept me away from a eco diesel.

The previous generation EcoDiesel has an awful reputation. I'm not sure how much of that they fixed in the new truck.
If TCO/efficiency is your priority, your best bet is probably the F-150 with the 2.7L EB. If you want a Ram, get the regular 5.7L Hemi. |

Just get the 5.7
Change the oil on time put good Put good oil in it and you will be OK It's crazy to think that I would rather own a Chrysler over a GM nowadays but that's just the way it is now 2 of my coworkers have 17s and they have been pretty good |

For me, it’s the Ford F-150 5.0 MasterRace, what a great truck.

When the first EcoDiesels came out, people were often getting 30MPG or better on the highway. I am not sure how the newer ones are

GDE has been shut down for a while now.
With a GDE tune they were amazing - I wouldn't want one without the tune option. I have a long commute too and needed 4x4, researched ecodiesel vs ecoboost for a long time before settling on ecoboost. Basically same MPG (untuned ecodiesel vs ecoboost) with none of the issues. |

In two otherwise identical trucks the Hemi tows more than the EcoDiesel, but the diesel gets similar mileage loaded to an unloaded Hemi truck. The EcoBoost won't get near the mileage of the 3.0L Powerstroke either. |

I'm trying to stay away from Ford. I bought my F250 new in 2006. I just want to try something different that's all.

I rented a 1500 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi and it told me I was getting 26 mpg on the highway. That's pretty damn good in my book, but I assume it was using cylinder deactivation or something..

I bought a 21 Silverado 1500 with the 3.0 duramax yesterday. Mechanics I talked to said they have been problem free so far. The maintenance schedule is easy to keep up with outside it’s 150k mile service. Real mpg are averaging 25 city and 30 hwy.

Should've bought a Cummins.
A 1500 is within about 1k lbs of the curb weight of a SRW 2500 and 3500. Your making that little diesel work much harder than the 6.7. The reason the I6 Cummins is so good is because it's an I6. That in and of itself makes it more reliable because you don't have to throw a bunch of extra harmonic balancing crap on it like you do a V pattern. So you buy a truck that weighs nearly the same, hauls/tows less, and has an inferior motor. I don't get the love affair with diesels, and a half ton is pants on head retarded. Having a diesel in the driveway is like having an ex-wife living out there constantly begging for more alimony. If I could sell all of our horses, trailers, and stop towing, I would never own a diesel again. This coming from a guy that has owned six Cummins Rams of various flavors over the years. It's a great engine, hugely capable, but it is so much more expensive than a gas motor to operate and maintain. |

Never buy odd-year vehicles. That's when they roll out new tech, make changes, etc. They get it fixed by the even-years.
