A woman who was pulled over during a traffic stop apparently recorded a Priceville police officer telling her to “go back to your trash in Decatur,” and “It’s a shame God allows people like you to breathe.”
WAAY is reporting the woman had been pulled over for a light being out above her license plate. She did not receive a ticket. During a heated exchange, the woman is heard to say, “Write me one (ticket) now!” before a man’s voice says, “I don’t want to write you one.” A little later, a man’s voice is heard to say, “It’s a shame God allows people like you to breathe.” Still further into the recording, a man’s voice says, “Go back to your trash in Decatur and get out of here.” .. “It is an unfortunate fact that officers sometimes encounter persons who do not conduct themselves respectfully. Nonetheless, the Department expects its officers to perform professionally in their dealings with the public, regardless of the conduct they face from citizens with whom they interact. Priceville is maybe a three mile stretch of highway on the east side of Decatur. Has a few churches and a high school. Decatur was nearly closed in the 1930s because of malaria and without cotton wouldn't have lasted that long. TVA stabilized the river and drained the huge swamps. Its an industrial town that was solidly blue collar (still mostly is) until the last twenty or so years. Is the County seat for Morgan county. Decatur has always had a case of the ass because of how well Huntsville and Madison county have done. Easily 1/4 of Decatur works in Huntsville. If Priceville has three police including the chief it would surprise me.
He was most likely correct in his assessment. Decatur does have a lot of trash. Very large Hispanic population. |
