Qcomm looses singal all the time when the antennea's view of the satellite is blocked..... I have had Qcomm messages arrive 10 hours late cause the Qcomm sat, is actually pretty low on the horizon when you get far enough north and a building blocked the signal..... We used to have to back units out of the shop and park them in a certian spot in the parking lot to test the units after servicing them in Connecticut, As the building roof would block the signal inside , as would the building if you parked in the wrong location outside |

As a Florida native, who has never driven in snow a day in my life, I have to ask the same question. Driving in heavy snowfall is like driving through a kaleidoscope of white. Hard to see in front of you. Add to that every other person out there driving at 5 MPH and or plowing through and wrecking, you waste a lot of time and energy not going very far. Sounds like driving in a hurricane. I've done that...and would do it again before I sat for two days only being 100 miles from home. Different but similar hazards but equally dangerous. Having done both I try to avoid driving in either. Trust me, there will be traffic, waiting, wrecks, and lack of traction on hills. You can avoid flood waters; you can't avoid 12" of snow or snow drifts that are even higher. |

Fucking sheep) |

If it's the place I'm thinking about, you have a McDonalds there, a Sheetz down the road and a big gun shop across the street. You have plenty of stuff to keep you busy. Don't know which way you were going, but if you are headed north and have to go over Paris Mountain, you're better off where you are.

Been there, done that! I don't suppose your lucky enough to be at a TSA with those deals you stick in your window that provide heat/Ac, and internet access. For some reason I dream of being stranded in Wyoming at Little America (the truck stop in the western end of the state) riding the storm out in a nice cozy room, with someone else picking up the tab lol!

Move a mile each day, or a hundred yards. Just log it. Tell HQ that the stae police made you move... That way you don't reset and can take a break when you get home. I used to sell logistics for a corrugated company, I've seen the tricks from both ends! |

Put a bucket over that damn qualcom thing and get the hell out of there...Go home... wait the storm out. then drive back to the truck stop and take the bucket off the qualcom gizmo. it might work.. Hell I never drove for a co. with those damn tattle tales on them.. Log books aren't a problem Have an old timer teach you how to fill one out... Loose leaf logs are the greatest...I always hated going east.. I drove west and south from Iowa.. I am not saying I haven't driven east....Just hate like hell to do so.. Give me the wide open spaces.. I would rather drive in LA then anywhere in the east.. I have been in Baltimore,Jersey city, new York city, Buffalo ny,Boston,Long island,Washington dc,Chicago,Detroit, I never lost anything and I aint going back to those shit holes... Just saying.. My dispatcher always asked if I was a truck driver or a tourist??? if yer a truck driver get the hell to rolling, if yer a tourist get the hell off the road...good luck.. The trucks I drove were 379 petes twin stack 550 hp 18 speeds 300 gal fuel tanks, top out around 90mph fully loaded.. I left Iowa Saturday morning and delivered in Oakland Monday morning.. did that for 13 years get home on Thursday morning get my 34hr reset and roll out on Saturday.... to do it all over again... I took my wife and kids on many a trip with me..

So um what are the roads looking like for shippers?
I got stuff coming to me in Portland, OR... one thing left IL yesterday morning... I'm hopeful it'll arrive at the shipping center sometime tonight... The other thing is sitting in the Tennessee shipping center now... I don't expect that to head out till Monday. |

First off, truckers can't read so books are useless for anything but toilet paper. Second, I know you can put a TV in there, and now Satellite - but how good of a reception are you going to get in BFE with a blizzard out side? |
