I am far to selfish for both marriage or children and the added burden of child support would not be worth it. In a different time I would've liked kids but those were the days when women raised the children and men provided a paycheck, advice and some education but would generally do what they want otherwise. I might be interested in it later in life. I was essentially an only child and my dad was not the best dad to my siblings. I came along 20 years after my oldest brother and we have vastly different childhood experiences and opinions of my father. I can see myself being an OK dad when I settle down in my 40s.

OP, I never wanted kids. I now have a 10 month old and it's a frickin' blast! The first couple months were hard but around month 3, her little personality started coming out and I'm head over heels in love with her! It's so weird that things like being covered in peanut butter actually is hilarious.
People always told me "It's so much better when they're your own." They were right! Just my 2 cents. ;){kind=icon}

I think anyone who doesn't have/want kids is making the best decision possible, based on their point of view. I sure as hell wouldn't want someone who doesn't "get it" to have a kid they didn't want. Those kids usually end up in mass shootings and the like. It's something I don't think you can explain to someone who doesn't have children. It's like an entirely different meaning of what living means. It's a massive responsibility to do it right and the most fulfilling feeling a person could have. Not something you can explain with words IMHO. Being a millionaire, multiple degrees, going to the moon or whatever other accomplishments people have achieved, can't compare to being a "good" parent. Your giving of yourself in every way, to help leave the human race a better contribution than yourself. Your greatest success is to leave behind people that are a better version of yourself, to make the world a better place

I would be very cautious about calling out those who say they don't want children. There are an awful lot of people these days who can't. You would never know if one of those you are calling out really wants children but isn't able. Kids are a blessing and if you can have one be thankful. My son is my existence and while shit is going downhill fast, he'll have a positive or negative impact on better days ahead.
