I was told its to allow for easy returns. That way they can always go get a new hat that matches their outfit. Makes sense in a weird FSA kinda way.

Started in Atlanta and Houston. The premise was people showing off how fresh and new their hat was.
The reality, is cheap motherfuckers would buy the shit, keep the stickers and tags on wearing it for a night, then return them as unworn. |

1st time I noticed it was in the Little League worlds series where a team from Brooklyn or the Bronx made it close to the final. I kept looking at their hats like WTF is this? It was in the fall of 2001 when I they were on TV. I can remember starting to see them worn in other places after that but I distinctly remember that was the first time I noticed it.

As a flatbiller, I've always accepted the origin as Orange and San Bernardino counties, started by my fellow bros.

You guys have it all wrong. Flat bills are more tactical than curved bills. It still effectively blocks the sun while still allowing a fuller field of view than a curved bill. You are allowed to see any incoming threat from all sides while still being stylish.

I think I remember first seeing the doucheyness on Jesse James' Monster Garage show and then some famous skaters/xgame people. That was at least 10 years ago. Still as retarded now as it was then

The whole flat brim thing was spawned from people leaving stickers on their hat. The problem is, if you wanted the giant sticker on your brim.. Curving it would loosen the sticker. So naturally you have to keep the brim flat for maximum sticker adhesiveness.
I want to punch every person with flat brims and stickers in the face. |

It was so it would look like you just stole it off the rack.
And my avast just went off on this page, too... |

The tightly curled "I prepped it after I bought it by wrapping the bill around a can" is every bit an much an arbitrary, pointless fashion statement as any other.

This has been talked about a few times. Basically, it's done to show it's new. "Hey look at me, I've got money for new stuff". It's the complete opposite of someone who buys a single hat and wears it while doing hard work for years in that hat. I've also read it makes it easier to swap hats at will. Walk into a store with a "brand new" hat with all the stickers and tags attached and leave it there while grabbing a new one off the shelf without paying. The way I have seen it the sticker/flat bill thing happened at the same time. It's been going on for years. That last bit is what I've always assumed. That, and it emulates the look of athletes in post game interviews after winning a championship, after some staffer had just haphazardly stuck a brand new "West Div Champions 1996" cap on their heads. |
