Whatever you do DO NOT FEED HIM!    You'll never get rid of him then.

Oh, by the way. Humanity is pretty much fucked. Lock your fucking doors before one or more members of humanity takes a big wet bite out of your ass.

right I should have had the door locked . but is your door locked during the day while you are there? ALWAYS locked.

Now you know why.

i got it.. lock the doors... I don't always leave it unlocked. obviously didn't lock them tonight...complacence on my part.. as far as calling the cops... do I call before I draw? and risk vital time? if I draw first and plan to call the police, which I did, I had my cell phone with me. than I am prepared to defend myself until they get there.
He complied with my commands and probably realized that he just made a stupid mistake. that being said, in hind sight. I should have done it different, but it worked out fine in the end. Looking back, I probably didn't need to call the police or draw my side arm. that is just how it unfolded.
I prepared for the worst and it turned out to be a small incident of some drunk or stoned kid ended up in the wrong basement looking for refuge.

lesson learned.. vigilance restored.

If something fishy is going on, call the police before investigating. Always call the police after you draw. Don't draw unless you feel your life (or depending on state, life of others with you) is threatened.

Devils advocate here;

If I was the kid, I would have called the police. Hostile/Agitated/Aggressive man with gun threatened to kill me, I was totally unarmed and looking for my friend at xyz apartments. Cops/Swat show up, take all your firearms easily finding the one that matches kids description "black automatic pistol". Police interrogate and coerce you into giving some sort of incriminating evidence if not a full confession. Judge/Jury finds you guilty, and away you go.

ABSOLUTELY, YES!

The *only* time a door that enters into my home isn't locked is the moment when someone is using it.  As soon as that person comes in or goes out, it's immediately locked.

My doors are ALWAYS locked.  Always...

Car, house, business.  Why the fuck would I give anyone the opportunity to just walk in?

Yeah, it's "oh my goodness gracious me" sad that I have to live like that, and I certainly miss the days of my youth when we left doors unlocked, and the car keys in the ignition.  But those days are long, long gone.

Sitting at my computer reading reviews on weapon evolution when the door of my apartment opened up. I look over at the door and it shuts right away. this is 130 in the morning( i work 3rd shift so i am up at this time regularly). I spring up and grab my glock which is sitting right next to me at the computer. I rush to the door, stand to one side and fling the door open. there is some dingy lookin street kid( isay kid but he was prob in his mid 20's) standing there I had my pistol by my side so he did not see it. I asked what the fuck he was doing and he said, " im sorry sir, i am looking for so and so". he said a name I am not farmiliar with so I told him no one here by that name, get lost. I watched him walk down the hall and out the door on my floor( i live in a 6 apt house on the sec floor). in my drawers, i closed my door and got dressed to take my dog out and make sure he wasn't still here and doing something he shouldn't. in my neighborhood there are some muggings and cars being broken into all the time so when I take out the dog at night, i holster my pistol. I get outside, no one out there. my dog does her thing and I bring her in. as I am going up the stairs I hear movement  on the 3rd floor( the 2 apts up there are friends of mine and not of his) so I started up the stairs with my hand on my side arm just in case. there he is again! I say, "what the fuck are you doing here?" he says, My friend left me here." I say, "well you have no friends here, get the fuck out of my hall way!" I walked him down to the door at mag-light point and told him to leave. he did. about 10 min later. I decide to double check to see if he is gone, as it is now almost 2 am. I get down to the door and look outside to see if he is hanging around, at this point I would have just called the cops as he was real suspiscious. as I turn to walk up stairs, I notice my basement door is open a crack. I drew my pistol, rested it on my other arm that was holding my mag-light and opened the basement door. I said(before I turned the corner on the stairs), "if there is anyone down there, come out now, I have gun!"... no response I slowly go down the stairs and see no one. as I rounded the corner at the bottom, there he was in the corner of my basement hiding. I put my crimson trace on his chest and exclaimed," this is my home, you don't belong here, get out!" he raised his hands and apologized saying his friend left him and he had nowhere to go. I walked him at gun point to the outside door and to the edge of my buildings property and told him not to come back here, we don't want you here! shitting his pants he walked away down the road in a hurry. he said his friend was hanging out with the teenage slut next door and he didn't know which apt it was. I hope he got a lesson in manners when entering into someone elses place of residence. he prob didn't mean any harm but at the time it all happened, who knows. kids these days have some real strange habits,

I think you did good.. But next time call the cops first, just in case you have to double tap the guy... It looks better to call first, then shoot; than to shoot first then to call... Of course if SHTF, double taping the bastard first will always be a better option

Yep me too. I would have called the cops between the first incident and the second incident.

And I NEVER would announce I have a gun. If you come around the corner THAT will only get you shot.

I don't always lock my doors when at home,in fact the front door is open now (screen door is shut) but I have a good area and a dog that can hear keys jingle at 50 yards and car motors farther than that.

I would have called the cops the second time i saw him.

Damn, seems like a lot of people here live in fear.  I keep my back door locked most of the time, my front door is usually standing wide open so I can keep an eye on the yard, plus I'm always in and out.  Then again I live in the backwood of Louisiana with few neighbors.

If anyone walks into my home, I am going to assume it's for nothing good and start shooting....no questions asked.

Car door stay unlocked, house sometimes locked.  Hell, sometimes we even sleep in a tent in the yard!!!! No LOCKS!
