My understanding from a friend who runs a garage with occasional police towing is that the tow would be free to you.
If the vehicle is reclaimed by the owner, the owner will be responsible for the tow and any storage fees. If the owner doesn't show in a reasonable amount of time, the tower will go after a salvage title and then sell it either in parts or whole to recoup that money. He loves doing just this kind of job too, because the truck rarely gets claimed and he can sell it to a scrap yard for more than he'd make on a tow anyway. |

Kill it with fire.. +1 Or lets have an ARCOM BBQ and use it as a target. |

Scrap that bitch out. Unprepared steel is roughly $75 a ton right now
Aren't you even curious about what is in the back. It might be full of ammo or Thompson SMG's.
If the cops won't tow it, file a lien, take posession, strip it out and sell the good stuff and take the rest to the scrapyard for more $$$.
You can easily pull at least a grand + out of that, probably more. |
Ill bring my trailer up and take it off your hands. I'm an hour from MO |
If you were in Texas, I'd take it off your hand. I need a cheap 4x4.

The picture has a pole in just the wrong spot but that is at least a 2002 pickup. And you're trying to GIVE it to a tow company? And also all the comments about selling it for scrap...that's not a $500 pickup...
THats a pretty good looking truck. If the tow company can get it for free so can you. I would find out what needs to be done to get it.
I was thinking 1988 POS not 2002 ish.
I change my vote to strip it and sell it. |

Fix it or strip it for parts . That trucks worth some cash in parts or running .
that thing looks pretty new i thought it was a rusted out POS with flat tires fix that thing up, paint it camo, and use it as an offroader or BOV |
fuck, thats a pretty nice truck.
if i were you i would keep it and get it running again, just drive to the dump and throw out the shit in the back and you just got yourself a nice truck. |
Shit, I thought it was a beater. What would it cost to get it fixed?

Here in CA having a car towed from your property will not cost you any money. I don't know your laws. That is not entirely correct. If it is parked otherwise legally and not blocking a road or driveway the property owner can call a tow and Law Enforcement will (can not legally) get involved. If it is missing magor parts, blocking a road or driveway, used in a crime, stolen etc... Cops have the authority to tow from private property. Other than that land owner makes the tow truck call and pays. |
An early 80's rusted out POS you blow up.
That thing you work on getting the title and sell it for a couple grand or more depending on mileage and condition. |
I'd pay a tow to a secure location under my control, and file for a salvage title after whatever time frame is legally required.
Unless it is more trashed then it appears I wouldn't give it away. |
If the tow company can take it why can't you? If it's been declared abandoned it's yours now. The salvage yard should be paying YOU.
And that's why I wanted pics Seriously, that thing looks pretty nice! Assuming it's not stolen, then I would do as others suggested above and check into seeing if you can keep it.

That's nicer than any vehicle I own, when can I pick it up? Seriously. I'll take it off your hands and 'wheel the shit out of it. |
Was probably wrecked and repaired without proper primer or some such allowing it to rust. I can barely see it in the pictures, but its there. Still looks like a really decent truck, especially for free.
Stolen truck. Let the sheriff or police tow it. They do it for free as it is a recovered vehicle.
Fix it up, keep it on your property, use it to run back and forth to the lab occasionally, write it off as business expense = win
I will say we had a problem where some one cut our fences and drove into spot light deer, well it was a clunker and they bailed out and left it when we drove out there to confront them.
3 days later no one claims it, we bring the tractor hook on GENTLY pull it out to the county road, take a hammer and knock a hole in the front glass pour in 2.5 gallons of diesel and away we go. County came and retrieved the remains about a week later. |
I would talk it over with the police and try to get my hands on it with a title or not..then basically use it for a weekend fun machine. Truck+woods(ON YOUR PRIVATE PROPERTY)+30 pack+ trees or anything else you want to run over = fun weekend. if you break it, drag it out of the woods and call the scrap yard.

Probably more than $1,000 if parted out, but also probably worth several thousand if repaired, even with a salvage title. I would not give this thing to a tow shop. Would you give away $1,000 in cash? |
I guess I really don't get it.
Maybe you're extremely wealthy, I dunno, but a newer Dodge Ram 4x4 isn't a real crappy truck, and certainly is worth more than the couple hundred dollars you'd get for junking it. Dollars to donuts, if you connect the wires it will start. Even if it doesn't, it's still worth way more just for parts alone. Personally, if it doesn't start after fixing the wires, and the expense to get it running wasn't extreme, I'd fix it up and have a nice little mess around vehicle. JMO. |

Cool Creations H20

I don't know about other states but in GA the scrap yard isn't going to buy that from you unless you have the title in your name. The wrecker companies will tow it to their yard and go through the process of putting a lien on it and claiming it as an abandoned vehicle, then sell it to cover their towing and storage expenses.
Property owners here can do the same thing, file a lien for storage fees, and eventually get a title. If you have some place to store the truck, and won't have problems with it setting on your property in it's current condition, then you could get the title, legally own it. From the looks of the truck it would have some value, especially if the repairs needed to get it running aren't too expensive. If it were me I would let it sit, get the title, fix it and sell it, but I am probably in a better situation as far as skills and tools to fix a truck than most. Running and driving that truck is worth at least $3500, a junk yard tranny and engine would be about $1500, so there is money to be made on it. |
I wish to retract my earlier statement. That is a pretty nice truck. I would figure out what I had to do to make my own.
Id vote to call a tow company because its new enough it may still be financed , thats a 2002-2007 dodge ram 2500 pickup , cus if it is still not paid off the bank or finance company still owns it may become pissed if you ship me the hemi or the cummins engine .

+1 on selling a 4x4, its worth more then scrap value, especially if ti can be fixed and can get a title. You should d be able to get a title for it, since they left/abandoned it on your property. Worse case sell it as-is on EE

If there is a key in the ignition I bet that truck starts with a good battery .....
Those wires that you see cut .... they are for a trailer brake controller ...... They arent very important ........ Hook a set of jumper cables up to that bitch and see if it will start. |
Wow! I would try and see what it would take to keep it! Then make it into a road warrior vehicle!
I would put money on it being stolen... Looks like crooks used it to move (happens all the time) and ditched it with all the junk they didn't want in the back. Or it was used for burglaries.
Or guy was behind on his payments and just dumped the thing. Either way, I am kind of surprised that the cops have not showed up yet. That truck is not a $500 rust bucket, it is worth at least $8,000 or so. |
