We've been pretty spoiled over the years with always having air supremacy... Hope we don't learn the hard way...

A Stryker variant with a GAU-12 and a 40mm Bofors would be the heat for built-up areas. Anti-helicopter protection, could take on all but heavily armored vehicles, and lower collateral damage fire support for the ground pounders, all in one vehicle. Add in a couple of ADATS and we'll call it good. You know we actually bought some ADAT's back in the 80's? I know we were looking at them, I didn't know that we bought any. They used to buy ads in the military magazines. Yup, we bought a handful of them mounted on trucks and they were given to the NM National Guard. I thought those were German Rolands? (sp) Arn't ADATS Swiss? ETA: OK I see this was covered. The article on ADATS was interesting, I liked the concept of a single missle that coule be used for aircraft and tanks, but wow the article made it out to be a real loser. |

The only thing we havew left int he way of AA defense is a bunch of Avenger Humvees and Linebacker Bradleys.

Now all we have is the Avenger and MANPADS for SHORAD, and PATRIOT for LORAD.

I agree completely, having the Army maintain anything more than short and medium range ADA is a waste of resources. AF should have the PATRIOT. I believe the IDF and South Koreans do it this way do they not? |

But as a 16S (Stinger) in the Army...I felt pretty useless. |
