According to the NIH heroin and other opiate abuse by whites has exploded over the last 10-15 years. Heroin use among whites and non whites used to be almost equal (about 1/4 of a percent) in 2001. However it has grown to 1.9% of the white population, almost double that of the non-white population.
That is just heroin, the data is even more skewed when you look at prescribed opiates. For a lot of different reasons, for example whites having a higher rate of being insured, whites have been much more likely to be prescribed opiates.
CDC has found that the drug overdose death rate for non Hispanic whites (25-34) tripled between 2002 and 2014. It stayed almost the same for blacks and Hispanics.
