Maybe 10-12 years ago I would go up once or twice a month via NJTRANSIT...I was dating a girl up there at the time, and I also genuinely liked to go up and walk the streets, people watch and afterwards grab a meal somewhere..

Went up there again last weekend for the first time in maybe 4-5 years...I wouldn't say its gone downhill visibly from what I saw, but it's a filthy nasty place and there is an underlying stench of what can only be described as decay/pollution that was everywhere I walked..

On the upside...there are TONS of pretty women up there that seem to outnumber the hispter/skinny jeans guys of questionable sexuality by 2:1.

I remember being a dumb rookie getting assigned to a pool in our command during that whole early 90s "whirlpooling" era...hundreds of Obama's children on a hot summer day, desperate and angry trying to cut the line to squeeze into the overcrowded, urine filled city pool...angry, impatient, and seething...and me the dumb, fair haired, Irish kid assigned to keep order...

Fuck you, pay me.

God I love saying that. I think I'll have a nice $25 Padron 1926 #9 maduro with my scotch on the deck this evening. Burn motherfucker.

He was born Warren de Blasio Wilhelm

His dad was a combat veteran of WWII.

He changed his name to honor his mothers side, and not his fathers.

I routinely processed people for B felonies (NYS PL 220.16, look it up) and they were back out on the street the next day. Or sooner.

Assaulting a cop in NYC just isn't taken seriously by prosecutors/judges.

Absolutely, NYC is awesome. I even enjoyed my first trip back in 93ish when it was still fairly rough.

Also, I've been to Texas several times too. Mostly to Dallas for business, once for a bass tourney on Fork. NYC > Texas by any measurement.

Neither are East Tennessee though, truly God's country. Not to come off too racist but my county is 94% white people who have been in this country for 300+ years, no violent crime to speak of, no 'undocumented workers', and nobody has ever accosted me with a squeegee.

Oh, they'll make the connection eventually.  It took about 20 - 30 years the last time New York went through this, but eventually they figured it out and elected a more or less conservative mayor.  Then another 20 odd years later they forgot the lesson.  Eventually they will figure it out again.

Even if history was seriously taught anymore people would tend for forget these lessons, and we no longer seriously teach history.
