I shot an original a few years ago... One of my all time favorite rifles.

I think it´s mega-mega cool!

I want one!

Don´t forget, the 5K get you a NEW gun! And service and spare parts if necessary!

I wonder, if original mags fit? ( these will go up in prices, being scarce to begin with ).

And now:

I have heard, a FG 42 to be the next project!

A Fallschirmjaegergewehr 42, as authorised by Goering!

In 8 x 57 JS ( 8 mm Mauser ), with 20 round mags!

Gonna start saving money ...

Hermann

Proabably the only good thing that man actually ever did for the Luftwaffe.

The MP44s are coming in from SSD within the next 1-2 months. The reps. from SSD are actually flying in from Germany this/next month to oversee the 922r compliancy at I.O. as they don't want their reputation tainted by refitting issues concerning American parts. The initial one was approved by ATF. I locked my price in at $3495 for this firearm. I.O. expects to receive 50 units a month after that. If the dems. get elected and no more make it in after this year or early next year, assumably the price will go up on the ones that are already owned. Ammo in 7.92x33 8mm Kurz is available in the U.S. and is relatively cheap at $9.25 per box of 20 PRVI manufactured (Hornady is expensive in this round at about $20 per 20). I ordered 500 rounds of this ammo just last week and it cost me roughly $250 + shipping and handling to Alaska - which is comparable to .223 or 7.62x39 in the same amount (in Alaska). If you got the dough and can afford to spend it, this "could" be a good investment. I, of course, won't be 100% happy with it until it is range tested by myself. The Canadians rave about the STG44s and MP40s SSD manufacturers. As noted above, SSD (a small company) takes GREAT pride in their craftsmanship. I for one don't have $15K sitting around for an original MP44 and don't want to hassle with a Class 3 license (assuming FA) and a semi-auto orig. MP44 would be big bucks as well regardless of FA or not. So a brand new semi-auto MP44 for $3500 is a nice price for me. But until they charge my credit card, no harm to me.  I'm waiting to hear about SSDs MP40s as well, but I will point out that MP40s are manufactured here in the U.S. by Schoessler's Supply Room for $2700 and they got good reviews by the persons who bought them. However, I for one ain't payin' $4500 for an MP40 from I.O. (SSD or not) that has the stock permanently fixed in a closed position so it can constitute a pistol to apease the Feds. for import. Schoesslers has them in 3 versions 1. folding stock with short barrell (original look); 2. permanently fixed stock with short barrell; and 3. folding stock with long extended barrell - to make it longer than 16" inches. But the folding stock short barrell (original look) is an sort barrelled rifle (SBR) and you have to go through the same B.S. to own one of those as you would a full auto. I would love to have a MP40 whether semi or F.A., but I'm wavering on that proposition at this time.

Thanks for the great info.  I also have enjoyed how the price has kept creeping up and up.

I started whispering in another retailer's ear about these.   Hoping for some positive info later this week.

Wasn't there a thread on here a few months ago about some little old lady who had an STG-44 on her fireplace mantle, brought back from World War II by her now deceased husband, and some Arfcommer had to explain to her what it was because she didn't even know?

Yeah I remember that, and I think the rifle had been deactivated.

I'm more interesting in the MP-40, but for $5,000 I'm just going to laugh at anyone who actually spends that much on one.

Yeah the little old lady's husband brought it back as war trophy, but he hadn't  registared by the deadline so it had to be deactivated.   Sad.  15-20K worth of rifle just wasted - gone.

Agreed, it's a lot of money for any rifle.  But I've seen guys spend over 3K + on Wilson ARs - and it's still only an AR.  Heck, I outshot him with my Bushmaster AR and I only paid $800 for that.  But I guess if you've got the dough and can afford to throw out 5K, then I say WTF - you only live once.  I've blown 5K in Vegas in 4 days and have NOTHING to show for it but a "good time" - woo.... hoo....

They're fine if you're a collector and want a replica for your collection I guess.

I no longer collect guns though. I see them as weapons and tools for defense. Viewed through that spectrum I'd rather have a modern firearm that is more suitable for modern defensive situations.

Whatever floats your boat though. I don't put any conditions on the right to keep and bear arms. If you want to collect guns then that falls under the "Keep" category.

With the OP's permission:

Just an FYI, if interested, here's my current thread on the initial results from the range testing my MP40 semi, a Schoesslers gun bought from Allied Armament for $2,500.

The Zielgerat 1229 "Vampir" infrared sniper version of the '44 was real, by the way. Though only about 300 were delivered.

MP43/1, MP43: A few had a scope rail spot-welded to the right side of the main housing. The steel base was almost identical to the integral G43 / K43 scope rail. The scope mount had an appearance very much like the very first G43 slanted-strut telescope mounts. A special ZF4 was used for the "kurz Patrone" (because of different trajectory).
The scope rail was later used with the "Vampir" infra red setup.

Thanks for the very useful info. I was seriously considering getting one of those SSRs MP40s as well.   I'd been in contact with SSR once or twice and when I told them I wanted the SBR version in all black, they stated they would work with me.  From what you've indicated, that may only be realistic up to the point of selling you the firearm.  I noticed that the I.O. MP40 (MP38C) from SSD is climbing in price.  Reviews on that MP40 looked promising.   SSR's customer feedback on their Web Page reported none of the issues you had but magazine feeds - but who knows.  I think I'll wait and see what the I.O. MP40s reviews are when they finally come available before making a decision. Thankfully for me, I am in contact with several people who are purchasing the MP44s from I.O. in the first batch of 50 rifles, so I will have several range reports from buyers before my MP44 would come available sometime in October.
