CitySlicker , I don't mind at all . A posative story is a good thing for all .
Currently we are sitting at $80 . We can currently almost get a decent plaque done up . I am still looking for knife suggestions . Once again thank you to all that are makeing this posable . As an aside I had mentioned that I had an in with DAR . Well today I was informed that a certificate of appreciation will be given to Mr. Morton by the Daughter of the American Revolution at the Alaska State DAR conference this year . |
Pic, maybe you could help out on a knife selection? Does the man hunt? Think he'd like a nice hunting knife, maybe a camp knife, or would he appreciate a good tactical blade? Whatever. Only thing I'd suggest is that we make sure whatever knife we buy doesn't say "Made in Taiwan". Guess we'll see how much $ folks come up with. |

In for $20. Steve |
Steve will bring us to $120 .
The plaque is a sure thing at this point . If we are going to do a knife also , we need to decide on one so we can get a total $ amount to do it all . Also I might ask some one in the lower 48 to receive the knife and send it up here by USPS . MOST business rape AK for shipping even when they use USPS . Once again thank you to every one that is helping make this happen . Timothy |

Kodiak,
I have a knife I'll donate - brand new but out of the pkg. Gerber Harsey Hunter WIth Fixed Blade Molded Tactical Sheath, special edition Operation Iraqi Freedom. IM sent. Bought it to 'put away' - a true impulse buy - then realized I NEVER do that, so decided to use it on my survival campouts. If it'll fit into your project, I'll send it your way. |

This one?
<Edited to remove pic. Backstop posted a better one below.> |

I often have to replace the flag at the USAF radar station I work at, the winds really tear them up. I never let it touch the ground and I make sure it is disposed of properly. We feel pretty strongly about it so it upsets us when we go into the villages and see a ripped up flag being flown at the post office or veterans outpost, sometimes there may only be half a flag left flying. We offer them a free flag if we share the same size. Our flag is also illuminated 24/day as our regulations require us to take it down each night if not. I think it's disgraceful to see a flag flown in that condition, I'd rather it not be flown at all. The flag in my bio is one that was flown at our Barrow station, the farthest northern flown flags in the US and I am standing at the northern most point of land. I treasure it.
Good on that vet for taking care of the flag. |

As of right now we have $100 in Paypal . We have a $20 donation making it's way on the dog sleds and the $20 I am throwing in . That would bring our running total to $140 right now . there may be something big in the works after I here back from Backstop .
Once again thank you to every one making this happen . Timothy |

We are currently sitting at $150 .
I need sugesstions from the knife people as what is good and what is crap . I am not a blade kind of guy . Something huge is in the works and I will break the news as soon as I hear back from Backstop . Timothy |
Tim, What about the knife that Backstop is willing to donate? |
IM to ya, Kodiak. Sorry I've been absent. My dryer went TU yesterday afternoon. I had to tear it apart, troubleshoot, then find the parts. Just got home with some of the parts - heading for Home Depot in a second. I'll check back later. |

He is a Nam vet . The Desert Storm Logo just seems a bit off . But wait for it ...... Edit to fix a very bad typo . |

Outstanding plan there, Kodiak! |

Understood. The auction is a GREAT idea, IMHO. Great job Tim. |

And thanks to FMJunkie for inspiring the auction idea in the first place . So as it turns out the auction seems to be going very well . I never knew we had a member than ran an engraving shop until he contacted me about the plaque . Instead of going with a fancy ebony he offered up marble . We need a finalized inscription on it so he can begin the work . So people well to be honest I am not very good at wording things the way I want them to be at times so I might need a bit of a hand on this one . Here is what I am thinking . If you got something better , Please let me know . To Riley Morton On behalf of the membership of www.ar15.com in recognition of your service to our nation and continued patriotic actions over the weekend of November 25th - November 27th we salute you . Signed the membership of www.ar15.com |

Please IM me with a paypal addy , no auction for me...but I'll kick in a $20.
Mr Morton IS a hero. God Bless Him. |
Yes, thank you Backstop. In regards to the plaque, may I suggest it read "To Ranger Riley Morton"? Regards, Justin |

Just a thought..........
In recognition for his actions of 25 November - 27 November, 2005 we at AR15.com salute you as a TRUE AMERICAN |
That's pretty good! Again, I'd have to suggest prefacing the name with the title Ranger. |
Normally I'm not quite such a spelling Nazi - but if it's going on a plaque - It's spelled recognition, without a k. |

BTW, A good Camilius trench knife would be great. His father climbed Pont du Hoc on 6 June, IIRC. I thing he likes ww2 stuff. In fact, I KNOW he like WW2 stuff. His dad was a ww2 tough guy and he brought that to Vietnam. Let's put it this way, I've SEEN this guy's dogtags, the ones he wore when he caught an AK round and wound up in Tokyo. There's a 7.62x 39 hole in one of them. Seriously. No shit. |
SGB You da man .
The engraver also suggested a subdued American Flag across the bottom . There is no change yet in the current funds , but there is a lot of pending funds on the way . Does any one have a source for the Camilius trench knife Piccolo suggested? |
Piccolo may well correct me, but I believe a Camilius trench knife (I think it may be called a "Marine Fighting Knife") would be an authentic collectible rather than a commemorative so finding a good one may be difficult. I hope I'm wrong because it sounds like it would be a great find. |

Glad I could help out guys. This is a good thing you all are setting up.
No sweat .
Ok Guys I ordered the plaque the other day . The auction closes in about 3 hours . Almost there . |
That's a K-bar, and sort of a Marine thing. He's 100% army. |

Well folks .
We got a winner . We got a payment made . We have a knife on the way soon . We raised $305 in this effort . The plaque is ordered . The other knife will be on the way after tommorow . I say we did a good job . Thank you to every one helping make this happen . Timothy |
By the time my silly MO gets there everything will be done .
Cool. Maybe you'll have to buy him a beer . |
Great Job! |
Have a beer or two on me first as my thanks for your effort. Then dispose of whatever my surplus may be as you deem appropriate. I already like your ideas anyway. |
That's a cool story... how about we by him a book of flag stamps.
Why was the flag flying after the PO closed. It should be brought in every night. IIRC PO's are not authorized to fly the flag 24/7. |
