Pic, maybe you could help out on a knife selection?  Does the man hunt?  Think he'd like a nice hunting knife, maybe a camp knife, or would he appreciate a good tactical blade?

Whatever. Only thing I'd suggest is that we make sure whatever knife we buy doesn't say "Made in Taiwan".  Guess we'll see how much $ folks come up with.

Steve will bring us to $120 .

The plaque is a sure thing at this point .

If we are going to do a knife also , we need to decide on one so we can get a total $ amount to do it all .

Also I might ask some one in the lower 48 to receive the knife and send it up here by USPS . MOST business rape AK for shipping even when they use USPS .

Once again thank you to every one that is helping make this happen .

Kodiak,

I have a knife I'll donate - brand new but out of the pkg.

Gerber Harsey Hunter WIth Fixed Blade Molded Tactical Sheath, special edition Operation Iraqi Freedom.

IM sent.

Bought it to 'put away' - a true impulse buy - then realized I NEVER do that, so decided to use it on my survival campouts.

If it'll fit into your project, I'll send it your way.

I often have to replace the flag at the USAF radar station I work at, the winds really tear them up.  I never let it touch the ground and I make sure it is disposed of properly.  We feel pretty strongly about it so it upsets us when we go into the villages and see a ripped up flag being flown at the post office or veterans outpost, sometimes there may only be half a flag left flying.  We offer them a free flag if we share the same size.  Our flag is also illuminated 24/day as our regulations require us to take it down each night if not.  I think it's disgraceful to see a flag flown in that condition, I'd rather it not be flown at all.  The flag in my bio is one that was flown at our Barrow station, the farthest northern flown flags in the US and I am standing at the northern most point of land.  I treasure it.

Good on that vet for taking care of the flag.

As of right now we have $100 in Paypal . We have a $20 donation making it's way on the dog sleds and the $20 I am throwing in . That would bring our running total to $140 right now . there may be something big in the works after I here back from Backstop .

Once again thank you to every one making this happen .

IM to ya, Kodiak.

Sorry I've been absent.  My dryer went TU yesterday afternoon.  I had to tear it apart, troubleshoot, then find the parts.  Just got home with some of the parts - heading for Home Depot in a second.

I'll check back later.

Thank you . Thank Backstop also for the donation . With out him it would not be happening .

And thanks to FMJunkie for inspiring the auction idea in the first place .

So as it turns out the auction seems to be going very well .
I never knew we had a member than ran an engraving shop until he contacted me about the plaque .

Instead of going with a fancy ebony he offered up marble . We need a finalized inscription on it so he can begin the work .

So people well to be honest I am not very good at wording things the way I want them to be at times so I might need a bit of a hand on this one .

Here is what I am thinking . If you got something better , Please let me know .

In regards to the plaque, may I suggest it read "To Ranger Riley Morton"?

Normally I'm not quite such a spelling Nazi - but if it's going on a plaque -

It's spelled recognition, without a k.

BTW, A good Camilius trench knife would be great. His father climbed Pont du Hoc on 6 June, IIRC.

I thing he likes ww2 stuff. In fact, I KNOW he like WW2 stuff.  His dad was a ww2 tough guy and he brought that to Vietnam.

Let's put it this way, I've SEEN this guy's dogtags, the ones he wore when he caught an AK round and wound up in Tokyo. There's a 7.62x 39 hole in one of them. Seriously. No shit.

SGB You da man .

The engraver also suggested a subdued American Flag across the bottom .

There is no change yet in the current funds , but there is a lot of pending funds on the way .

Does any one have a source for the Camilius trench knife  Piccolo suggested?

Piccolo may well correct me, but I believe a Camilius trench knife (I think it may be called a "Marine Fighting Knife") would be an authentic collectible rather than a commemorative so finding a good one may be difficult.  I hope I'm wrong because it sounds like it would be a great find.

Why was the flag flying after the PO closed. It should be brought in every night. IIRC PO's are not authorized to fly the flag 24/7.
