So somone other than poor women finally came to the realization that you could get more than dinner and a movie out of sex? The way some will sleep with anyone with a pulse why not? Might as well get paid for it. But it goes completely against the liberation movement. The author is a 60's era feminist BTW and she knows the more pervasive things like this become, the less women will be taken seriously in the real world. The longer this goes on, the more it'll be expected of them to use sex to get ahead instead of their abilities that go beyond that. And it makes it harder on other women that actually are willing to do the hard work to succeed as sexism is increased. The old school feminist are shocked as a matter of fact that many women of good backgrounds are actually self-destructing at their own hands now. And they realize that it's also going to make the liberation movement nothing more than a joke. It may be unintended consequences for some naive feminists but a lot of feminists saw things like pornography as another form of empowerment for women. This is just further down that rabbit trail. These girls have a very particular set of skills that they can transfer into a lucrative career. It's not like they're ghetto crack whores turning tricks for another rock. As long as it is completely voluntary, why try to shoehorn them into a more "respectable" traditionally male career as a lawyer or something when there is an alternative that they seem to enjoy and do well? What is more helpful to women: shoving them into a role that was formerly the domain of men just to get a 50:50 gender ratio, or making something semi-respectable about a societal function that has been dominated by women since the beginning of time? And btw women's liberation movement already is a joke. |

Her father was an oil executive, her mother a PA. Jennifer’s fellow prostitute (and alleged enthusiastic participant in lesbian scenarios) is 23-year-old Helen Wood — also from a middle-class home. Her mother is a primary school teacher, for heaven’s sake, and her father a university lecturer. I have no doubt the parents of both girls are asking themselves: ‘What went wrong?’ Of course, no outsider can answer that. But we can look at the world those girls have grown up in, and perhaps find some clues. As a children’s author, I have found myself in many schools over the past 25 years and noticed one significant change — nowadays, girls of ten and over seem to have grown up far too quickly. So many aspects of popular culture — from fashion, to pop lyrics and videos, to advertising, through to TV programmes like Big Brother and The X Factor — peddle a combined message of sleaze and greed. This corrupting influence is very hard to avoid. Once, a little girl might have wanted to be a teacher or a doctor (and of course, many still do), but now, sadly, she is likely to say she wants to be a model, a pop star or a WAG. The most frequent answer I get, when I ask little girls what their ambitions are, is: ‘I want to be famous.’ The disturbing truth is that many teenage girls will read the lurid stories about £1,200-a-night sex and think it sounds a very easy way of making a living. Better than studying; more interesting than a nine-to-five job; even ‘glamorous’. They do not realise that the line between wannabe WAG and girl-on-the-game is very fine indeed. Just as bad — many teenage boys will think that what they learn from internet porn is clearly right and all girls are cheap slappers, up for anything if the price is right. Little by little, the gutter has become the cultural main street — and morality be damned. How can women have changed so much in the space of less than a century? On the one hand, you have the noble history of active suffragettes and other brave women who took on the establishment and were punished most severely for merely demanding the right to vote. You have the women who played a vital role at home and as nurses at the Front in the two World Wars. You have the women who challenged institutionalised sexism in the workplace — and bequeathed us a world where equality is no longer an aspiration but a reality. We owe them all so much. By sickeningly depressing contrast, just a few decades later, we have Juicy Jeni and Helen Wood, who have taken that precious inheritance and wiped their hookers’ stilettos all over it. They are not the only ones, of course. Less than a year ago I wrote about the famous call girl known as Belle de Jour who was revealed to be Dr Brooke Magnanti, a high-powered scientist casually unabashed about her secret life as a hooker. She boasted of being ‘unbelievably fortunate’ because she enjoyed her horizontal job and had never had a bad experience with a client. I'm sensing a theme in the subject matter of your reading. "Oh women are all dirty whores, but they are paying their price for demanding equality; if only they still dressed like Little House on the Prairie" |

It's just a biological function. Paying someone to remove a hangnail is no different from paying them to rub one out for you. It shouldn't be wrapped up in all the pseudo-morality, fear and hatred that it has attached to it. I know lots of folks that make money in the health care field, at spas, as masseuses etc. It's all just servicing aspects of the human body. Not dirty, evil or wrong. Neither is servicing the reproductive systems if you take the proper precautions. For the record, I've never paid for sex, and don't plan to. I just don't think that selling a genital massage should be anything different from selling a back massage. So, you are saying that sexual behavior has no special morality associated with it? It is just simply a physical act no different than hugging. |
|
More than likely it has nothing to do with the money and lots to do with wanting attention they did not get as children. If the parents were always at work, the kids more than likely lacked attention.
We live in a sad world where women think they have to use their bodies to get attention. I am a modest woman and I am teaching my daughter to be the same. |

Same here, more power to you if you want to be a whore-there are a lot worse ways to get by in life. Take right here at ARFcom for example, or the entire gun owning/gun rights community. You have everyone from Fudds who dont believe anything but their single shot deer rifle should be legal all the way to those who feel MG's and DD's should be available at their local hardware store again. People will stop sticking to commonly held beliefs of a group they associate with when its their own livlihood on the line. |

As long as no innocent person is being directly hurt, there's no behavior that I would prohibit. Freedom. How does it work? |

Women bra-burners can't claim to be all about women's rights and then turn a blind eye to countries where the lives of women is so unimportant that they don't even record their births and deaths... |

That does not mean that upstate NY is about to be taken over by hypocritical Muslims who dress like Denny Terio. Just because something happens one place does not mean it happens everywhere. I know a few women in their 20s, mostly my friends' college age daughters. I can safely say that A-none of them are secretly working as prostitutes (small town) B-if there was as sudden increase of those women suddenly becoming prostitutes in my town you would be deafened by the roar of 30-30s, 12 gauges and the loud thump of axe handles as angry middle aged fathers turned on any potential johns like they were the were unwary bucks on opening day. |

Ok, so after reading the article my basic question is, does this mean the futures for said commodity (pussy) are up or down because of the emergence of this phenomenon? I would think down because of increased supply, but the price could actually go up, as more women resign themselves to the fact that their sexuality is a commodity and (as pointed out earlier in the thread) that men are willing to pay more than dinner and a movie to purchase that commodity?
I'm not a master of sexonomics by any stretch, nor am I personally invested in the market. But I like to keep tabs on it, the same way as I watch fuel prices and consumer confidence numbers. |
