Someone should tally up where everyone is from, find a place that's kinda central, and get a shoot together.
Austin would probably be pretty central... about the same distance from Houston and D/FW.

The only problem is, we'd need a range that will handle all of us.  The one I can think of would be Hill Country Rifle Range... nice big open range... there's some 50, 100 and 200 yard targets, it's all dug into the side of a big hill, and there's a couple silhouettes out at longer distances.  The Austin Rifle Club out near Elgin has a nice range, but I don't think they'd let a bunch of non-members just show up for a non-club sponsored event.  Of course, there are the Highpower Rifle comps every month there....

Gibsons is the best range, but you should try the lease off the trinity river in S.E. Dallas County. No R.O.'s (like Frank's a$$hole sons at Gibsons), no rules, no set hours. Just show up and blast away.

Exactimundo, mon frere! Crowell is about eight miles south of the Pease River Bridge, which is 16 miles south of Hwy 287 intersection with Hwy 6 in Quanah, Texas!

One of the last great battles of the Indian Wars in Texas occurred at Margaret, Texas, on the Pease River, in 1860, which is referred to as either the 'Battle of Pease River' or the 'Battle of Margaret.'

It was a force of Texas Rangers led by Capt. Sullivan Ross a/k/a 'Sul' Ross, against a band of Quashadi Comanches led by Peta Nacona.

Peta Nacona was defeated in this battle and was said to have been killed by the Rangers. His body was never found and the legend was born that he did not die, but went onto the staked plains in the Panhandle to perpetually hunt for his beloved buffalo. His son Quanah Parker was the last great war chief of this band of Comanches.

Quanah, meaning "fragrant," was born about 1850, son of Comanche Chief Peta Nocona and Cynthia Ann Parker, a white girl taken captive during the 1836 raid on Parker's Fort, Texas. Cynthia Ann Parker was recaptured, along with her daughter, during an 1860 raid on the Pease River in northwest Texas. She had spent 24 years among the Comanche, however, and thus never readjusted to living with the whites again.

She died in Anderson County, Texas, in 1864 shortly after the death of her daughter, Prairie Flower. Ironically, Cynthia Ann's son would adjust remarkably well to living among the white men. But first he would lead a bloody war against them, lasting until after the (2nd) Battle of Adobe Walls in 1874.

Quanah became close friends with Theodore Roosevelt and dined with him at the White House on numerous ocassions. Another close friend was Charles Goodnight of 'Goodnight-Loving Trail' fame.

You really need to read John Graves' book 'Goodbye to a River' at this point!

Capt. Sul Ross went onto become Governor of the State of Texas and President of Texas A&M University. His statute on campus is referred to as 'Old Sully' and is a landmark for Aggies!
