...You mean there's other choices other than a Model 1894 Winchester in .30-30?

BLASMPHEMY!

Gee, I have a '94 in .32-40 that I inherited from my Father.

Still no comments on porting the barrel????  I have never fired the 45-70 (sounds like that is the way to go) and if I use the hotter loads is it worth porting and how much difference does it make?  Sounds like Marlin is pretty much the hands down winner!

Thanks

Sorry DS, missed that part.  I don't think porting would be needed; They don't kick that hard.

Marlin in .357 mag or .44 mag, or both.

A couple of years ago I went looking for a lever-action rifle in .357 as a companion to my S&W Model 19.  After looking at both offerings, I have to say that Marlin simply makes a nicer rifle.  I've been very happy with mine.

+1 for the marlin.

I love my 336A in .30-30.

Yep, me and my horse are just passin' through on the way to Dodge.

I do keep my eye open for any model 1894 traffic.  It no longer gets any use with .32-40 ammunition all but impossible to get these days.  When my father first purchased it used, back in the 1940's IIRC, the caliber was still very popular.

I have owned two Marlins. Some of the finest rifles I've ever seen.

I imagine Winchesters are equally good, but I'll admit to preferring Marlin lines. They flow nicer!

Marlin 336 Stainless Steel, .45-70

Sorry man, but hte 336 is chambered in ONLY the 30-30Win and .35Rem. The big bores are 1894s and 1895s.  Check out www.marlinowners.com/board/ the "Big Bores" forum and the "1894" forum, LOTS of good info there. We all went to that website when Marlin shut down their "Marlin Talk" last year.

Here's Marlin's own site about their products. www.marlinfirearms.com/firearms/index.php

Sturm,

I know it was a typo, just ribbin ya a bit.
