Indian ocean on our way to the Persian Gulf for Desert Storm.
Honestly though we get some great ones here in SE NC, and sunrises too. Something about being only a few miles from the ocean I guess. 1DD |

Kei Kecil, Maluku, Indonesia. It seemed to fade and reignite multiple times.

Seen some KILLER sunsets here in the Sonoran Desert, but the last, most memorable sunset was on the beach at Carmel, Ca.

Sunset over the coast range in the Northwest during the summer. It's far enough north that the twilight lingers, and sound (and quiet) seems to carry forever. A few days after a forest fire, after most of the smoke has cleared, there are some blazing orange sunsets.
Drink a beer, and watch the sun sink slowly into the west over the farmland and mountains and forests. |

Cape Byron, Australia Oct. 1995. Still remember it like it was yesterday.

Several of the best sunsets and sunrises I've seen were in Afghanistan.

17 years old, manning the helm of a 144 foot Barkentine schooner, making north in the Gulf stream, and the sun was going down.
Mount St. Helens had erupted a couple weeks previous, and the sky was eeriily yellow, and the seas looked purplish, violet-colored almost. It all looked so incredible that I actually pinched myself to make sure that what I was seeing was actually real. I was just a kid, but even so I knew that life only had so many days and only so many moments of life like that, and that I was very, very lucky to have it. |

St. Regis Resort in Kauai...or Mama's Fish House in Maui. Indescribably beautiful.
However, I do love summer sunsets in AR rice country. |

Sitting on the end of the pier in Oceanside, CA drinking a beer. It was nice.

White Sands New Mexico. I used to love to sit on a white sand dune, drink a beer and watch the sun go down.

I watched the sunrise from the edge of a sunflower field in Kansas. Was napping with the SO at the time when we were diving to CO.
Got a little up the tiniest hill at a rest stop, and we watched it. I totally fucked the shit out of her while it was happening. Things and stuff and life..... |

Indiana has some beautiful sunsets and sunrises in the fall. Watching the sun dip into the ocean in Okinawa was pretty cool too.

Driving up the Oregon coast. 2003, I think.
The sunset was indescribably gorgeous, but what was really impressive was seeing the green flash. It was an incredible explosion of green light just as the sun dipped below the waves. |

I recall beautiful sunsets after Mt Pinatubo erupted, but may have just paying attention more.
The glowing cilffs in Utah when you are in the shade while the cliffs are still getting hit with sun. |

Prettiest? Floating on the Chesapeake, on the far shore off of the Pungoteague.
Most memorable? The first time I witnessed the green flash. Oahu. |
|
Saw the green flash off the north shore of Kauai with my wife on our 10th wedding anniversary, from the beach we got married.
