Athlon X2 64 5600+ 2GB PC2-5300 RAM GeForce 8600GT (256MB) Maxtor SATA3 160GB boot drive (and another 2+ TB of combined SATA/IDE and USB drives hung on the machine) Does great for 1080P video and the older games I like. Upgrading isn't possible. Maxed out the CPU, PSU and no faster GPU for the old style PCI-E x16 slot. |

I assume you have the "newer" E6600 like me and if so you can run it @ 3.5 with stock heatsink no problem. |

I have a second system with a 965 CPU and a GTX 265 OC that's slightly faster than this system. The mechanical hard drives are killing us. Caching controllers can really pump up the score. Though at the price of a good one it's cheaper to buy an SSD drive or two. I got the one I'm using as an eval the vendor didn't want back. It's suppose to be setup for RAID, but at the moment I have it configured for 4 discrete drives. |

If you're going to drop that kind of cash, may as well get something next year that can actually use SATA3. Just get an X25-M, and then when you upgrade, slap it in a USB2 enclosure. |

So we can assume a 3.0 Gbps SATA drive is gonna score a 5.9. I see the SSDs are getting slightly better.
Is anyone using any other kind of drive array? ie: 6.0 Gbps SATA2 SCSI SAS RAID |
