My G-Shock has lasted 18 years and I just replaced the battery last year for the first time. I also got a new wristband for the first time too. I changed the battery myself and have been in the water since and it seems to work fine.

Here is the best price on replacement bands for mine $16.95 www.watchbands.com/ProductInfo.aspx,,productid,,54285, they have others too at casiosalesandservice.com

I've had mine since '98 and its still going strong.  I've replaced three bands and four batteries, but yes I DO use the indiglo light as a flashlight, on more than one occassion.  Having a watch that doubles as emergency lighting is pretty cool in my opinion.

I've been totally impressed with this watch, like no other ever.  I am tough on watches.  I dont know what exactly it is, but watches never lasted more than a year for me.  It didnt matter if it was a $.99 watch from the drug store or high quality watch, wind up, battery, digital or analog.  I even went through a few Iron Man watches looking for something that lasted.
Invariably I somehow broke the watches, either cracking the face, or scratching it up too bad to see through, or just making the thing stop working.

In '98 I learned to SCUBA dive and needed something waterproof to monitor down time with.  I bought a G-Shock, basic model from the PC on base in Okinawa.  I fully expected to get my year out of this watch and then move on.  I'd have been happy with a year.

Here it is eight years later and its still going strong, though I have had to replace the band a couple of times.  This watch made it through dozens of dives, at least three months spent in the field every year, two years of construction, and now three years of doing security work, breaking up altercations and the like.
Still no problems.  G-Shock is the BEST watch you can buy, and few other things come close to being as tough for the money.

I'm probably going to sell it though.  It was an impulse buy that I couldn't really afford.

If you look at the 2 links the MSRP for the 2 different models are different, I must have missed a feature somewhere.

I got the $40 Atomic Gshock from Costco...it seems to work so far.  For 3 whole weeks!

I like the auto on light feature...tilt your wrist a certain way, and the light comes on if it's below a certain light threashold.  That's pretty cool.

That's the one I wear as well. It is my first G-shock and I love it. After going through several Ironman watches I will neever go back after having a G-shock. My only complaint is the resin band; I like the velcro type bands better just haven't been able to find one locally.

S-1, Yankeefan or anybody.....

Does it look like it might be easy to change the bands? The resin ones get all sweaty under them so I would be changing it to the velcro one.

Have had abut three diffrent g-shocks since the 80's currently wearing a DW-9052 for the last two years or so. They really take a beating. esspically compared to the "ironman" watches by timex which are a joke -- most fall apart after a few weeks of hard use. All of my g-shocks still run to one degree or another despite band breakage and replacement and more than a few batteries over the years. Next I will probabbly go with a solar/atomic model.
What we need is "limited edition ARFCOM g-shock" like the zippos and such to completly accessorize all of the rest of our uber tactical gear.

BTW Anaconda 44 the bands are not hard to change espically if you use the 16-21mm adapters for the velcro bands but  found that the cloth/nylon bands retain sweat/moisture/saltwater next to your skin and irritate your wrist area so you end you with a like sunburnt area on your wrist. Also I found that once they age they can get stripped off in the surf pretty easilly. I personally like the resin bands better

Of course theres an idea--an Arfcom embroidered tactical velcro replacement watchband!

Offctr,

It's weird, I don't mind it when the cloth bands retain the sweat but I can't stand it when the sweat piles up under the resin ones....

Found another spot to buy Casio watches on the interweb.  They also do price match +5%.  They have the G-8000 in stock.

Linky to LeisurePro.com

Edit: Well now I did it, they lowered the price to match Jomas so now they are the same.  Just ordered mine though, $49.95 shipped.

I asked this in a new thread, but didn't receive any replies.

Also, what is the next size smallets g-shock?
