Mazda RX-3 sucked, so did their rotary engined pickup.
the first few years of RX-7's were bad too.  Early rotaries were notorious leakers and didn't last long.
the new ones are really good though.

I don't know how old you mean, but my 1984 (1st-generation) RX-7 had almost 200K on the clock when its rotary engine gave up the ghost...

... although I'll admit that when it died, it DIED (i.e., had to be completely replaced $$$).  But it was a great little car while it lasted.

... I've had a Miata for 13 years - my daily driver for 12.  Now its just a fun car.  Zero prblems and still one helluva tight, quick fun car...

15 years, 100K+ on mine - great fun.

ETA:  Those are the only 2 Japanese (or import, for that matter) cars I've ever owned, so I can't really speak to the worst car... SORRY for the double-OT post.

so you're saying you don't miss the BRAT?

The Brat I was driving was the lone survivor in a game of follow the leader when we bought 3 4X4 for $1,000.
It was a Bronco II, Brat, and a Dodge Power Wagon and we were not gentle on them

That sounds like a helluvalot o' fun if you guys did what I think you did.  I would appreciate it if you would tell the tale.  Sounds interesting.

1994 Hundia(sp) Excel.

My parents bought it used for $8,000 or so.  ON YEAR LATER!  It had gone through over $11,000 in warenty work.  Thats more then they bought the damn thing for.  They replaced the fuel pump 7 times.  A piston rod broke and I inched home on 3 cylinders and then it was towed to the dealer.  It was the biggest peice of shit!

2 weeks before the warranty ran out, I drove into a wooden pole, about two foot diameter, about 15 feet long, and buried about 6 feet into the ground.  The pole was the corner pol for a cow field electric fence.  I hit it dead on going about 40mph.  Flipped it and everything.  It was fun.

I will give this credit to the car.  After the firemen, my Dad and I rolled it back onto its wheels, the car did start.  You could not put it into gear, but it did start.

Hyundai's are Korean I do believe.

The worst  Japanese car companies are:
1) Mitsubishi
2) Subaru
3) Isuzu

Do I need to make some sort of comment involving things looking alike?

Well, I found the Forbes list of the worst cars of all time, but since when has Forbes known anything about cars?

AMC Pacer (1975-80)
Chevrolet Vega (1970-74)
Citroen SM (1970-72)
Fiat Strada (1978-88)
Ford Bronco II (1983-89)
Ford Edsel (1957-59)
Ford Pinto (1971-80)
Honda Accord hatchback (1978)
Mazda RX-2 (1971)
Oldsmobile Delta 88 (1979-84)
Pontiac Fiero (1984)
Renault Dauphine (1956-68)
Sachsenring Trabant (1957-62)
Yugo GV (1981-91)

But based on that list, I'd agree that the 78 Accord hatchback and the RX-2 are quite possible the biggest pieces of shit ever built.

Amen.

The early Hyundai's and Subaru's were pretty rough too. Honda's mid-90's passports sucked too. Toyota's Celica was no prize either.

Don't tell my buddy that... even though it is a noisy deathbox, his is 10 years old, paid for and runs like hell.
