84 Charlie Mopic is a good one I've read that here for years but I've never been able to find it. https://youtu.be/mrozOz8DXq4 I just watched the first ten minutes of that. They've got LRRP guys talking at full volume on a mission facing each other eating chow BSing on a five man team. It looks like some high school kids are making it... beyond the "found footage" feel. I have actually been wanting to see it for a long time (I'm a Vietnam movie fan) does it get any better? ETA Now they have the PRC playing AFN on a speaker. |

Platoon.
We were Soldiers Rescue Dawn Uncommon Valor (kinda era) |

Full Metal Jacket followed closely by Apocalypse Now. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Is FMJ really a Vietnam war movie though? One could ask the same question about Apocalypse Now too. This is the answer, and Apoc now is my favorite. The beauty of that genre is that nobody really knows what happened over there. Nothing pictured in either are beyond the realm of possibility. |

Apocalypse Now
Platoon, Hamburger Hill, FMJ can't decide which I like better between those 3 ETA: Thanks to this thread I popped in my blu Ray of platoon. ETA 2: my only issue with Platoon is that most of the guys have carbines which isn't accurate correct me if I'm wrong. |

View Quote Funny, I just started re-reading the book yesterday. I remember seeing the movie and thinking, "well they didn't fuck that up as bad as they could have." |

I mispoke, I simply meant that it was something that could've occurred. I'm sure tons of crazy shit happened there that isn't widely known. |

That is my favorite. A good version of the early part of the war, and also the differences between the old guard regular army and the new draftees. No love for China Beach the series? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Apocalypse Now got me to join the Navy
So that, or FMJ. My favorite book on the matter is Chickenhawk. |

We Were Soldiers. It is probably the ONLY time Hollywood came close to getting a movie about Vietnam right.
Most of the others are filled with a bunch of stereotypical crap portraying our troops as a bunch of drug addicted psychos that are intent on raping and murdering the indigenous population. Fuck that noise. The average guy that went over there wasn't some sort of murderous freak or a drug addict. The typical soldier went over there, did his year, tried to stay alive and did his best to do his duty and serve his country honorably. |
