Whats the learning curve on the w.e. ive watched a few youtube videos and it seems pretty straight forward View Quote Sure other methods can get great results for a lot less money but most require a bit of practice and skill. With the wicked edge you can get great repeatable results basically without any practice. Which is nice if you're not sharpening very frequently. |

Arkansas stones and a leather strop most of the time. Sometimes I use my buffer and polishing compound.

Paper wheels. Have tried a bunch of different things to sharpen knives and doubt I'll ever use anything else.

Sharpened 4 kitchen knives today using a whet stone and 10w-30 but I'm not tier 1 so I probably did it wrong.

DMT 1200 mesh card for most stuff. It stays in my wallet. DMT 325 mesh card to establish the bevel. A old ceramic rod from a Kwik Sharp. FAL gas piston for a steel. Sand paper. For swords I use the sand paper with a big rubber eraser. The "For BIG Mistakes" novelty eraser.

Wicked edge is awesome but expensive. I use an Edge Pro Apex for pocket knives, Ken Onion edition work sharp for tools, kitchen knives, that sort of thing when a mirror polished edge is over kill. One should know how to sharpen free hand. Like learning irons before moving on to scopes and red dots. http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/basp2005/Mobile%20Uploads/20160323_145956-1_zpshzseb5iq.jpg View Quote |

Ive been kicking around the idea of getting awicked edge sharpening kit to use on all my knives. Has anyone ever used these before? View Quote I did. I spent about 1000. It was fantastic. I ended up sending it back because one of the arms would come loose. I kept hitting the blade. Then the diamond on my green and yellow stone wore off completely. It was bad ass, but for 1k it better last a long ass time. Thank god for Amazon's no bull shit return policy. I call wicked edge about my issues they said my stones were breaking in. On of my stones sounded like sand paper on the blade. The other sounded smooth. I then called the amazon seller. He said he'd take it back for a 20% restocking fee. I then called amazon and got it taken care of for free. |

Has anyone tried, used or own the Russian knife sharpener that was posted here awhile back.
It looked heavy duty like it was purpose built for sharpening knives versus an accountant engineered product. It looked a lot like the Wicked Edge system. |

Sharpmaker normally. Edgepro Apex if they're really fucked up..but that's rare. Need to put it on the EE.

Coffee cup, more often than not. Sometimes a dinner plate if I'm getting fancy.
Also have a sharpmaker and a 3 ring binder filled with a mousepad and a bunch of different grits of sandpaper. If I want a flat ground edge, I use the coffee cup. If I want a bevel, I usually use sandpaper and the edge of the 3 ring binder. |

Ken Onion Work sharp.
Because I have a bunch of weird geometry blades. If you get a KOWS get a roll of painters tape to cover the guides. They will get grit inbeded in them and scuff up nice finishes. |
|
I use a wicked edge. Love it.
Have up to 1200 grit ceramics. Keeps knives crazy sharp |
